Palestine, Iraq and the US

When George Bush senior decided to liberate Kuwait and to invade Iraq he also said that this would bring peace to Palestine.

When his son invaded Iraq he also said that this would bring peace to Palestine.

I never understood that argumentation. Obviously, it did not work.

Why did the two think that invading Iraq would solve the Palestine problem?

I suspect it had something to do with believing the errant Arab countries of the region would be suitably overwhelmed by the reality of US power that they might talk sensibly about recognition of Israel and ceasing support for militants.

However, I don't think they really believed it either. They might have hoped.
