Hello, ...Just a reminder to download on a clean install of RTW/BI/1.6
Its a mod by itself unlike an add on or a mini mod. Its a sub mod of IBFD for I got the historical idea and the inspiration to make my mod from the IBFD Mod and I use their mods impressive units. (Which is now the 5.3 ) But there are many differences between the mods, mine starts 463AD ,so the historical provinces and factions are set up much differently. Also I use Ice Torques huge BI WarMap II which some may or may not prefer. I personally think his map is awesome. Any feed back would be great because I am going to further develop this mod...
Some of these things are done for the next mods additions
1,Goths, Vandals, and Ostrogoth's will be barbarian cultures Vandals although look like the pirates they were as the Nomads )Vandals should be able to build a dockyard but as nomads they cant.
2 WRE I'll build up two of cities for a little better econ.
3, higher %of christianity in some cities
4 Slavic names
5 Mylaes superb new Roman buildings.
6 new units for the Picts and Northlanders.
7 ingame maps
ingame maps that I've been working on

The Hounds of Culann and the Kings Infantry are mercenaries but are recruitable in the Palatine barracks. The night raiders(not mercenaries) I think are appropriate unit for the Picts and now can be recruited in the Hundredmen Hall barracks and Royal barracks. The Hounds of Culann mercenary can only be recruited by the Celts in the Palatine barracks. They are the elite of the Aumue Boa. The kings infantry are long swordsman and men of nobility and wealth and can be only recruited in The Palatine barracks by the Celts and Northlanders. They are men for hire with the impetus of governing new lands for their king. This will be in for next download.
I would like to be able to recruit mercenaries like in MTW. a specific building should be required. I guess Palatine barracks can do for now. Maybe make them 0 recruiting time but also very expensive....https://img266.imageshack.us/img266/571/463wresmallhl5.th.png (https://img266.imageshack.us/my.php?image=463wresmallhl5.png)https://img363.imageshack.us/img363/4884/map1smallad1.th.png (https://img363.imageshack.us/my.php?image=map1smallad1.png)https://img363.imageshack.us/img363/8049/map2smallyn2.th.png (https://img363.imageshack.us/my.php?image=map2smallyn2.png): My ingame map of 463AD WRE for the next dl.The other two maps are in the current download. https://img210.imageshack.us/img210/7011/xenawoman1is8.jpg (https://imageshack.us)Remains Of Xena-Like Woman Found: "The remains of a six-foot tall woman, buried with a shield and knife, were recently discovered in an Anglo-Saxon cemetery in Lincolnshire, England.
The body and artifacts, which date to A.D. 500-600, suggest that more women than previously believed may have fought alongside men during the turbulent years following England's Roman period. "
"In addition to the shields, remains of two other individuals — a man and another woman — were unearthed. None of the individuals appears to have been related or otherwise connected to one another. The second woman was of average height and wore the wrist clasps, girdle hangers, and little pieces of bronze jewelry more commonly found in female graves of the time."https://img454.imageshack.us/img454/5322/dogmosaics1vy5.jpg (https://imageshack.us)The Roman empire became a melting pot of dogs from all its conquests. As in ancient Egypt, Roman dogs served in a variety of roles, from companions and guard dogs to vicious fighting dogs pitted against slaves and wild animals.
The proverbial “dogs of war” were also Roman. Huge and fearsome Molossians, which resembled giant Rottweilers, were sent into battle to kill and dismember the enemy. Mollosian, now extinct, originally came from Greece, where they were also used for fighting.

6 feet tall!!! :hmmm: hehe
re added "alemanni warhounds" 0 requires factions { burgundii, empire_west, alemanni, } but cut recruit numbers in half and more expensive.
.
Added some mercenaries to the barracks but they are only recruitable in a certain faction's province by using the hidden resource (except Boshoran infantry)
Infantry:
recruit "merc veteranii" 0 requires factions { empire_west, empire_east_rebels, empire_east, empire_west_rebels, ostrogoths, franks, goths, } and hidden_resource rome
recruit "merc bosphoran infantry" 0 requires factions { hun, empire_east, slavs, lombardi, ostrogoths, }
recruit "merc golden band" 1 requires factions { empire_east_rebels, franks, goths, empire_west, empire_east, } and hidden_resource soisson
recruit "merc bosphoran infantry" 0 requires factions { hun, empire_east, slavs, lombardi, ostrogoths, }
recruit "merc hounds of culann" 1 requires factions { celts, picts, romano_british, empire_west_rebels, } and hidden_resource hibernia
recruit "merc gallowglass" 1 requires factions { northlanders, celts, romano_british, picts, empire_west_rebels, } and hidden_resource hibernia
cavalry:
recruit "merc alan noble cavalry" 0 requires factions { goths, vandals, empire_west, empire_east_rebels, franks, ostrogoths, } and hidden_resource alans
recruit "merc equites veteranii" 0 requires factions { empire_east_rebels, franks, empire_west, goths, ostrogoths, empire_east_rebels, } and hidden_resource soisson
recruit "merc moorish raiders" 0 requires factions { eastern, vandals, } and hidden_resource carthaginiensis
I was able to transform the provincial campaign into standard barbarian invasion campaign..with campaign descriptions The Provincial campaign will still work, but it will just mirror the main campaign until I decide to mod it
-Added new Slavic names: IBFD forum members worked on it.
-tweak the roman cultures to have a better road system
-added Mylaes(most) of his new Roman buildings...working on the unique ones now
-tweaked the franks a bit (too strong out of the gate)

I'm testing the new units I put in thus far. The alemanni, Franks, Burgundy, Ostrogoth's, and Visigoths all seem to be working okay. The Slavs, Vandals and Huns, I need to further work on. The other factions I'll finish with another updated patch somewhere down the road. I'll just concentrate with these factions for now. The other factions are now longer vanilla anyway they have so it shouldn't clash very much. Unfortunately I can't get the full effect of these gorgeous units to view for the IBFD 6.0 animations will not(as of now) work in the mod I've created. :( The animations in 6.0 (skeletons) are larger than in previous versions so now there is much more visual effect. I'll work on this to work in a future version. But every thing is set except for several factions units to be tested. here is some new unit picts...stupid me had the video options on min...

Hi, Rio, I wonder if your mod avoids the WRE early CTDs that some people - like me - have had with IBFD 5? I'd like to try your mod as WRE but am not sure I can bear another disappointment (IBFD promised to be brilliant but I could not get past turn 2).
PS: I can't get this to work with the JSGME mod-swapper at all. The first version crashed when I choice a faction side. The latest version crashes after I skip the opening movie. Any idea what's going on?

econ21, I'm not familiar with that mod. What does it do? Also wait for the patch for the latest version.(Apocalypse mod) I have some corrections for it. Just a reminder the latest version is copied over the first mod and the patch is to be copied over the latest one.

I think the mod-swapper basically lets you install a mod into a sub-directory and then copies the mod over vanilla RTW when you want to play it, keeping the originals in a backup. It then allows you to uninstall the mod, returning to the originals and so you can easily switch to another mod. It worked fine with IBFD but something went wrong (probably my mistake) when I tried it with your mod. Now I have to uninstall and reinstall everything. I can't really recommend JSGME to the technically inept like me.

OK - that may have been part of my mistake. I have two big downloads from you:
(1) Rios_BI_IBFD_463.7z
and
(2) Rios_BI_IBFD_463_The_Apocalpyse.7z
Given their sizes, I assumed (2) replaced (1) but I take it, I need to install both - (1) first, then (2) over it and then wait for a patch?

yes thats correct econ..I'm testing out the patch right now. so far so good. With the patch you will be able to play the main campaign or the provincial campaign. A few files will have to be deleted before playing the main campaign though....I'll post every thing along with the patch:2thumbsup:

The year is 432AD or 463AD or 527AD. In 423AD,the Roman Empire was losing ground. By 463AD Most Barbarian factions had settled on the once powerful Roman lands and they looked to further expand.
The Western Roman Empires Northern boarders were in 463AD what they were at the time of Caesar. Most Barbarian factions had settled on the once powerful Roman lands and they looked to further expand. Unfortunately for Rome, the once Jewel of the empire, it had become the barbarians great prize.
It would take a mighty Roman ruler to once again reclaim its might or better yet, a mighty Eastern Roman ruler to bring back the empires glory...or again yet, a new barbarian faction to prove its prowess and mettle and become the new worlds greatest empire as did the Ostrogoth's in 493AD to 527AD. And can the once Roman homeland be kept as an Ostrogoth for your very own!?

(game would ctd if put in the game as named characters at the start)

-pictish shiltron added to the Pict army.

Thank you Arthurian TW for use of their awesome units
and Rios 463AD IBFD MEMBER Turkeys! for his help correcting errors

I put in King Ricks Justinian campaign. With the new buildings ect.. it would be a problem otherwise to make it work.

https://img301.imageshack.us/img301/5817/ostroromeph1.th.png (https://img301.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ostroromeph1.png)
1, To play the main campaign several files have to be deleted:
in bi/data/world/maps/base/map_heights.hgt..... delete map_heights.hgt.
in bi/data/world/maps/campaign/barbarian_invasion/radar_map1, radar_map2 .....Delete both radar_map1 and radar_map2.
The game will still work if you don't delete those files but you will have a double map...one of the smaller vanilla and the large ice torque. kind of weird looking...The provincial campaign is all set and doesn't need anything deleted.
Has anyone else tried this?
This appears interesting in that it give 3 different time-frames.....I'm downloading it now.

This was condensed by King Rick into 1 download on the Ibfd forums not too long ago called a Rios_IBFD_v1_full_build. No dl issues were reported but strangely the filefront server has caused an error as of today. I'm hoping to get King Rick to upload it onto another sever but for now we had to go back to the several dl as posted above. I have Rio III coming out with some significant changes soon. I'll post them here
Rio III...432AD Huns and 463AD Romes final stand.
Release: after IB 6.1
Many new additions
-4TURN per year optional for both campaigns
-tech tree in place
-Mercenary Fort for the economic cities
-Military and Economic oriented cities(iron resource influences blacksmith weapons)Legion Augusta III...helpful ideas with this
-Grain resource increases base level income
-no Grain resource decreases base level income.
-fixed Burgundian and Frankish family line.
-increased Population of certain historical cities
-Huns further strengthened in the 432AD campaign
-fixed Pict captain flag to match civ flag
-Vandals, goths, Pict's, Ostrogoth's changed to barbarians
-Temples more Historical(needs further work)
-Burgundians and Ostrogoths now can horde(very important with the Huns pushing westward)
-Slavs start off as hordes in 432AD
-Suebi Tribe now in Gallaecia Spain
-Bulgarians now replace the Northlanders 463AD campaign(IBFD Avar, Armenian and Bulgar units added)
-certain units can only be recruited in certain provinces by the hidden resource
-Wall corrections
-Bonifacius city corrections and geographical corrections(not totally finished)-Spain corrected
-Legion Augusta III legion corrections(not finished)
-Slavs more historical units by Duke of Serbia.
-resources to have other impacts on the city development.
Mercenary fort: I want Mercenaries to become a major part in the 5th century Roman empire. One way to do this was to implement a building such as a fort for them to be recruited.(also recruited are foederati and roman mercenaries with hidden resources) This is done in what I call economic cities. Redid some Roman territory on the Dalmatian coast for 463AD https://img462.imageshack.us/img462/5696/illiccoastwd9.th.png (https://img462.imageshack.us/my.php?image=illiccoastwd9.png)https://img487.imageshack.us/img487/4003/mercbuildhu1.th.png (https://img487.imageshack.us/my.php?image=mercbuildhu1.png) The recruiting of barbarian foederati, auxiliary, or mercenaries will depend on hidden resource locations.
Looks great so far!
I have long been hoping for some short of "Dark Age Total War" type game / mod that would go from ~400 to ~800 and would emcompase:
The collapse of the Western Roman Empire
The establishment and consolidation of the Barbarian Kingdoms in the West
Justinian's attempt at reuniting the East and the West
The Avars coming (ala the Huns) from the Steppe
The rise of Islam and the Final breakdown of Mediterranean Unity
3 out of 5 ain't bad... ~D Great Work!
I have downloaded the 432, 461, 463, 493 and 527 campaigns successfully. (I have not tried them yet, but will in the next couple of days).
Any plans (and I know this is a lot of work) to have the Avars (Avari) as an emerging faction in the 530s?

Hi Jazz19, King Rick has made the later 2 provincial campaigns(493,527) that go into the 6th century. I'm not sure what his plans are in concern of an emergent faction such as the Avars but I do know he wants to further work on his provincial campaigns.
In RIO III, I do have the Bulgarians as a faction in 463AD. The Huns are on the verge of disappearing with the Slavs and Bulgarians filling up the void.
Come check out our forums. The IB 6.1 is soon to be released with some tremendous additions and my Rio III will follow soon after it.
The issue with extending the mod(a new provincial campaign) to a date several hundred years in either way is that the units change significantly. It can be quite the task to create all those historically correct units.
Hope you like the mod....there is even a quick fix III on our forums that further enhances the Huns
After dl the quick fix remember to delete the radar_map1 radar_map2 maps in the maps/campaign/barbarian invasion folder or the map will look fuzzy just in that one campaign. This will erase the outlines of the vanilla map and will thus show the magnificance of Ice Torques BI WarMap.

Thanks for your reply.
This mod has breathed new life into RTW for me (as I mentioned above, I was looking for something in this time-frame!) :2thumbsup:
The map is a bit big, and is taking some getting used to in termed of moving around the campaign map quickly.
Small detail, but Antioch is a bit north of where is should be.
Also, one question. I notice that the main campaign is now the 463 AD campaign. What is the difference between starting the 463 in the Main Campaign, or within the Provincial Campaign?

Glad to hear the time frame is of interest:yes: I love this era in history even in Asia and the Americas.
The map is truly huge and will take some time to get used to. I know it never seems I can see enough when zooming out. For me there is some incredible visuals to see. Ice Torque did a tremendous job and can never praise him enough for letting me use it. There are some cities and names a bit out of place. Something that can easily be corrected with some time and research. I've concentrated on some of these city(geographical)corrections for next release in Rio III. Also in the current mod the movement points are doubled and 4 turn per year, movement is close to historical.
The 463 campaign should only be in the main campaign in the quick fix II. Did you download King Ricks Quick fix III? was that in his quick fix III??
The Quick fix III is optional I had King Rick tweak their(Huns) coasts. It makes the Huns more aggressive and a true threat to the Roman empire.
I'm sure I can move Antioch closer to where it should be.
The process for install isn't clear to me...
I start with a clean install of RTW/BI/with the 1.6 patch?
I go here: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=55668
And install the "orig 436AD IBFD mod"... then the quickfix?
What's the second file?
I can't seem to find a post in the linked thread that explains what to do.~
Maybe I'm being a retard here.

Dhampir, hi....sorry, it is a bit confusing. It was on 1 dl but unfortunately the filefront server was corrupted.
1,-DL this first and copy and past or drop the bi file over a clean 1.6 RTW folder
orig Rios 463 IBFD mod:
http://www.badongo.com/file/1119342
2,-Dl this second and copy and past or drop the bi file over the newly downloaded Rios 463 orig mod RTW folder
Rios IBFD 463AD Hun and Justinian era
http://www.badongo.com/file/1513349
http://hosted.filefront.com/Rioth/
3,-This is a very small dl that goes over the Rios IBFD 463AD Hun and Justinian era RTW folder
II quick fix
http://www.badongo.com/file/1535283
You are simply copying over the BI folders
There is a quick fix three on our IBFD Forums that you can use instead of the quick fix II....It makes the Huns more aggressive and powerful for the 432AD Campaign.
also very important ...to play the main campaign After dl the quick fix remember to delete the radar_map1 radar_map2 maps in the maps/campaign/barbarian invasion folder or the map will look fuzzy just in that one campaign. This will erase the outlines of the vanilla map and will thus show the magnificence of Ice Torques BI WarMap.
I have Rio III in the testing stages and hope to have it out very soon...on 1 Download:)
Any questions feel free to ask.
Thank you very much!~
Hi Riothamus
Can you do me a favor?
Can you upload the current starting maps for each of the 432/461/463/493/526 campaigns (the don't need to be particularly large) so I can link them on another forum (free publicity move! ~:thumb: )
Some of the maps above are not correct.
Thanks in advance!

Hi Jazz19, I'll get to that soon. I'm kind of bogged down with testing the new mod:book: Just to note. The 461,493, and 526 campaigns are King Ricks provincial mods done of my 463AD mod so I'm not sure how those starting maps look. I Did help him with the 526 Justinian campaign but I've been too buisy to really check out his other campaigns.

The year is 432AD or 463AD.
Unfortunately for Rome, the once Jewel of the empire, it had become the barbarians great prize. https://img72.imageshack.us/img72/8803/111ke2.png
It would take a mighty Roman ruler to once again reclaim its might or better yet, a mighty Eastern Roman ruler to bring back the empires glory...or again yet, a new barbarian faction to prove its prowess and mettle and become the new worlds greatest empire.

Cities There are 3 types of cities within the game.
1,Military cities: Military cities can reach their factions full military potential. These cities also have an advantage in weapon productions. The downside to military cities is that they are limited in building an advanced economy.
2,Economic cities: Economic cities can reach their factions full economic potential. These cities have an advantage in grain production. The Roman culture and the Romano British( a barbarian culture) can build mercenary forts to recruit foederati and mercenaries to protect their cities trade. The downside to economic cities is that they are limited in building an advanced army.
aMercenary fort: I want Mercenaries and foederati to become a major part in the 5th century Roman empire. One way to do this was to implement a two tier building such as a fort for them to be recruited. This I've done in what I call economic cities. (hidden resources applied for recruitment)
3,Capital cities: Capital cities can either be an economic or a military city. They are distinguished by having an enhanced trading system that also economically benefits the surrounding provinces
I think Having 200 provinces allows this system to work. Each faction will have ample ability to develop both types of cites. If playing the Romans there will be more of a need to rely on the foederati and Mercenaries.
To play the main campaign several files have to be deleted:
in bi/data/world/maps/base/map_heights.hgt..... delete map_heights.hgt.
Also very important ...to play the main campaign remember to delete the radar_map1 radar_map2 maps in the maps/campaign/barbarian invasion folder or the map will look fuzzy just in that one campaign. This will erase the outlines of the vanilla map and will thus show the magnificence of Ice Torques BI WarMap.
Special thanks to Ice Torque, Ramon_Gonzales_y_Garcia, and Attila, the forums originator, also the IBFD team for letting me make use their extraordinary work.
