I have a fresh install of windows and RTW patched with 1.2. When I play there is no water in the sea and the units disappear unless zoomed out in battle. On the map the units are not there, only the flags. Nothing came up on searching for missing water.

Will the the 1.5 patch I'm downloading correct this?

If i'm not mistaken the patches need to be installed like 1.2 -> 1.3 -> 1.5 correct? It's been a long time since I played this. And now I see there is a 1.6?

Btw i have DirectX 9.0b and nvidia Geforce 4 MX420, 384MB ram, SoundBlaster Audigy

As for your "bug"...I personally have never heard of it so I really can't help much except to tell you that I've never heard of it :dizzy2: lol...Point is, if it was something that regularly happened with the 1.2 I think I would've noticed the topic come up, but I don't think it has. I would really bet you that this is not a 1.2 related issue but something else install/pc wise, who knows.

As for the downloading process:

I don't think you need to download the 1.2 before downloading the 1.3. I think you can just go ahead and patch RTW vanilla to 1.3 and then patch it to 1.5.

As for 1.6, don't worry about it...it has no effect on RTW other than what 1.5patches. 1.6 is the newest patch available for the Barbarian Invasion expansion pack. Do NOT patch RTW 1.3 with 1.6...it will cause all sorts of issues from what I hear (never did it myself).

I'm relatively new around here myself (had an account that I used reguarly over a year ago...since then have pretty much just read threads here and there until I registered again last week) but the response time on almost ALL threads here is a little slower than the norm for gaming communities. Not really sure why that is, except that I think with TW games people spend the majority of their time in game...hitting the forum once a day or two just to scan through things...update their campaign "diary" etc.

Hopefully someone can address the gigantic sandbar you have in the middle of the campaign map sooner than later :help:

Thanks for info on patches. Downloading activeX 9.0c and the newest nvidia
drivers I could find. Will see if it makes a difference.

Might just uninstall this one and go straight to 1.3 and 1.5 after updating
the above. I tried the Realism mod last time and was unable to reinstall a fresh
RTW later on for some reason. Ended up reinstalling windows because of that
mod. Went through the registry and everything else -that thing had some serious
teeth.

Recommended patch path for RTW V1.0 is V1.3 then V1.5 (this was from the official web site before they redesigned it and made it unclear)

Works a treat.

Good luck.

PS..just dawned on me what your screenshot is showing. I thought I was looking at a unit that had sunk into some quicksand in a desert..but it is missing sea. Very strange.

I updated activeX and the video drivers. One of them fixed the issue with the no water, boats and units on campaign map. Still using 1.2 atm.

Now if only knew how to get rid that sluggish cursor on the campaign map. It is soo annoying. arrrgh :book:

Not sure on this one either, but I was right on the first one so I'll give it another spin: I think you may have to turn down your resolution or one of the other settings on the campaign map if you're receiving a slow and "stuttering" cursor.

Your system might not have enough memory with only 384MB RAM causing the system to put some of the map in the swap file. Reducing screen resolution should help. Be aware that RTW has a memory leak, so it eventually becomes very slow unless you have plenty of free physical memory. Make sure you don't have any unnecessary programs running when you play the game.
