The closest equivalent to the Persian Empire were the Parthians (Pahlava), though Pontos had a fair number of Persian nobles in its society (especially early on) so it could have feasibly become a new "Persian" type empire, except with more of a Greek influence than Parthia.
But I think you're after the Pahlav.

As stated above, Pontos and Parthia. Baktria and Seleukia were actually rather close in structure as well, but the Persian blood tends to run strongest in Pontos.
and i think mtw2 will be better then EB.

Pahlava, kind of. They didnt regard themselves as successors to start with, heck they were even called Dahae or robbers by the Persians themselves.
Pontos though is kind of the Achaemenid succesor state, as the Pontic royal family was Iranian in origin and claimed descent from a satrapal family who again had blood ties to Darius I. Hellenism though was the dominant "ideology" at the time, so the Pontic Kings portrayed themselves as truly philhellenic rulers.

Thanxs guys for the quick and very knowledgable awnsers, and i was just kidding about the mtw2 being better then EB, u cant really say which one is better but i think EB will probably, even though outdated and outshined, still come out as the more dedicated, and more intricate game. Afterall, all those unique buldings, i cream my pants eveytime i think about them:sweatdrop: , plus of course the awsome portrayal of the British tribes!!

well, according to my history teacher when i was a kid, when the persians all migrated from somewhere in russia, they were originally from the Aryan race. the migrating group broke into 3.
1 went to germany, and so the WWII fuss about the aryan race
another went to modern day iran. (persia)
the last group settled in northern india.
the ones who settled in iran again broke into 3 sub-groups.
1 - Medes? (not sure of the english. in Farsi/Persian they were called the MAAD i think) they were quite small. i think they had a few fights with the babylonians or the assyrians. not too sure. too long ago.
2 - the Fars who set up the famous Achaemenid empire. they took over the medes people above. also its because of them that the iranian language is called Farsi i believe. (in farsi they r called Hakhamaneshid)
3 - the last group where the Pars people, who set up the Parthian kingdom. (in farsi they r called the Ashkanian, name after their first king, Ask, or Arashk i think)
so basically each group got their turn in different times. after all that, the sassanids (Sasanian) took over, and they were all just called persian. not much more distinction between the 3 groups from what i remember.
hope that provides some info.
some good info there, but i call bogus on aryans in germany, any sources?
edit:not trying to sound aggressive, i've just heard numerous times that the claims of aryans in germany weren't true. I don't have any evidence to back it up either however. Just want some clarification from someone who knows
M2TW will have shiney graphics and nothing else, just like RTW, because CA have crossed over to the dark side.

well, wasnt that hitler dude going on and on about the aryan race being superior? blah blah
plus, the english and the russians used the excuse to just help themselves and attack iran during that time, even though it was neutral. the allies said that iran could not really be neutral cuz they were of the same race or sth, so they just attacked in order to open a way to supply russia thru iran and get lots of OIL!
anyway, germans and iranians dont even look like each other if u ask me. so i dont know. the migration was supposed to have happened few thousand years ago. who knows. maybe the history books i read were wrong, but im just telling u what i read.
u can never really be 100% sure with history.
oh yeah, and im not german just to make things clear.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aryan
But to paraphrase I might add that aryan was used as an alternative word to indo-european and its use to describe a race is erroneous designation by certian ethnolinguists in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Indo-european describes a language and so indo-europeans are those people who speak indo-european languages - but race is a whole other matter.

I recall hearing somewhere that Hitler never acctually used the word Aryan in relation to his Nordic Master Race. No idea where I heard that from though.

Well, i just checked had a look at the link provided by Foot, and it that one they basically talk about Aryan and stuff. there r mentions of iran, india and germany, nazi, etc etc. so, much of what i said i to some degree also covered in there. mine is just a basic, more simple, summarised version.
so the books i read and the stuff i wrote here were not tat wrong.
it also mentioned there that "iran" means "the land of aryans", and went on to about the whole nazi superior race blah blah
