Tuesday is Yorkshire Day, when men and women from across this historic county gather to celebrate their... well, Yorkshireness - leaving outsiders baffled about why they have such a high opinion of themselves.

Brass bands, flat caps, whippet racing, wrinkled stockings, beef dripping with bread, pie and peas.

The above are just a few of the umpteen cliches associated with "God's own county".

Although born in Lancashire (the real numero uno county :laugh4: ) I've lived and worked in Yorks. for 26 years. Anyway, have a happy Yorkshire day to all the Tykes on the Org.

:nice:

I'm guessing the cost of the celebrations will run into the tens of pounds...

Thank god we moved and I was spared the "honour" of being raised a Yorkshireman. :inquisitive:

Luxury. We used to have to get out of the lake at six o'clock in the morning, clean the lake, eat a handful of 'ot gravel, work twenty hour day at mill for tuppence a month, come home, and Dad would thrash us to sleep with a broken bottle, if we were lucky!

In celebration (http://www.phespirit.info/montypython/four_yorkshiremen.htm). Happy Yorkshire Day!

I've spent over half my life living in Yorkshire, but i'm currently here near St Helens. Shame really.

To get here though we had to wake up 5 hours before we went to sleep, then go down the mines working a 16 hour shift to get enuff coal for the steam buggy to run. Then we 'ad t' go o'er the pennines, through Manchester. Then once we get here we 'ad to jump in a freezing lake to wipe off all the coal dust.
