Has any mention been made of whether the slightly silly RTS sound effects have been kept or ditched for MTW2?

I used to get so angry at "We're under attack" coming from every unit in my army every two seconds. At first I didn't mind the "Cataphracts!" or "Chosen Archers!" when I clicked on the units but after a while that started to get on my tits too.

So....without resorting to "CA bashing" (I hope I made it this far without doing it, please dont whip me mods), I will just ask - does anyone know whether it's in or out?

While I have no official information from CA, my guess is that they'll keep them in, don't ask me why though. I think you can mod them out though without too much hassle, have never done that myself in R:TW though.

The funny thing is, that I never really noticed those sounds or just immediately filtered them, but I could never play Rome with my speakers on when my girlfriend was around because she would get annoyed at the sounds and call me a retard for playing a game, where every information is passed to you two-hundred-fold. So, I'm a marked man and wouldn't mind those sounds disappearing or being less frequent.

Cheers!

Try changing this entry in preferences.txt: "ENABLE_UNIT_SPEECH:TRUE" to FALSE.

Hopefully voiceacting will be better; I couldn't stand the accented english in some of the faction intros, and certainly hated the bellowing nutter after a battle. Hopefully not too many Monty Python comedy french accents in MTW2...

"The day is ours," shouted by a voice actor who sounds like he's in puberty with his voice changing, drives me nuts.

I share all your annoyances with this. I'd much rather have the slightly incomprehensible garble that our brave peons threw at us in Shoggy and MTW when compared to the over-the-top Hollywood stuff that RTW seemed to prefer.

why? i like it. espacially the Greek guy.

dont you like Tree-are-re-aye?
or Creeeeeeeeeeeeshian Archers?

You gotta be kidding me ~;p

Voice actors should be used for characters. Not for random soldiers. Gimme some barely understandable French or German when I'm playing those respective factions, and save the voice actors if you're going to add unique courtiers to my court.

well you can download the Latin-Voice mod.

Anything that is not an American accent would be an improvement.
I agree with Wizard, the inaudible troop sounds of STW were by far the least annoying

IIRC, the accents they had in the original MTW weren't bad.

I'm not too involved in the voice acting side of things, but just from the people in the actor's union I know (myself among them), it's easy as pie to get somebody to do british accents. But Latin? who knows.

At least the dopey voices can be turned off. Its the cutscenes and the (repetitious) quotes while loading that drive me crazy.

How do you turn off the voices?

edit: found it.

I didn't think the sound recording would be done in america, after all CA is in the UK and Aus not the US.

Can not some of the voice files be renamed? Getting rid of all voices would go a little too far.

Listen to the starting advisor in M2TW, you don't get more british than that...

In M2TW it's even worse after 1.2....

Our troops are under attack. We must act!
Our troops are under attack. We must act!
Our troops are under attack. We must act!
Our troops are under attack. We must act!
Our troops are under attack. We must act!
Our troops are under attack. We must act!
Our troops are under attack. We must act!
Our troops are under attack. We must act!

The mongolian "we'ah unda attack" takes the cake.

When will CA learn? :dizzy2:

The worst accent as far as I am concerned is the French. I had to turn on the writing just so I could understand what the French Generals were saying on their speeches. I kept expecting one of them to say "I wave my private parts in your general direction".
I don't know why I wasted my time as most of the speeches were under written anyway. I had at least expected a couple of funny ones from the crazy generals like in RTW.

I can live with just about any of the audio in MTW2--including most of the stuff I have heard countless times.

Even the Mongolian "Dey ah hutin' us" is still worth a chuckle, but as several have already mentioned, the color commentator's "Our troops are under attack. We must act!" repeated ad infinitum does tends to get on my last nerve at times. It is nice to have an audible clue when you start taking return fire, but toning down the frequency might just be a little less irritating.

Cheers

In general I find the audio of this game very good. The music is quite repetitive but for some reason it never gets on my nerves.
I especially like the fact that the music changes in battle when something happens like troops on the march or troops clashing into melee, it is informative in a very intuitive way.

Does anyone besides me miss the Latin/Arabic/Russian(?) shouted battlefield orders from MTW?
I didn't find them as annoying as M2TW's silly-accented-English "Units: March!" and "We are under attack!" etc. etc.

Still, I guess it would be too much to ask CA to record battlefield command vocalizations for each and every respective language. One can dream! :2thumbsup:

if you lisiten close sometimes the southeuropean units will say "si" and "archers rapido!" it annoys me when I play Byzantium.

Gah why did someone bump this thread, it was speculation from before the game came out! Obviously he found his answer almost a year ago.

Ok so I bumped it again, but the rant was worth it:wall:

One battle played today and it's just about driven me insane. The voiceover man won't shut up for two seconds. I can't turn speech to 0% because then I don't know what's happening when I kill/capture/whatever, so is there an easy way to delete those sound files?

"Your men are under attack! You must act!"
(enemy - "We ahhhh unda attack" plays)
"The enemy fights with horns made of...."
(enemy - "We ahhhh unda attack" plays)
(interrupting himself) "Praise allah! We ha...."
(interrupting himself again) "Your men are under attack! You must act!"
(enemy - "We ahhhh unda attack" plays)

He talks constantly for the ENTIRE BATTLE. You rarely get more than 10 seconds peace. It wasn't like that before 1.2.

I am fuming. I thought computer games were supposed to be something to enjoy....why does the game need to remind me every 2 seconds that someone is under attack? Did they not think before they put these stupid sound effects in? Are they there for the ADHD 12-year-old RTS crowd?

edit:Yes, this is an angry rant.

drove me nuts too. now i am playing english - at least i can understand what they are saying!

Yes, ditto, I now have to toggle speech on for the strategy turn, and then remember to switch it off for the battles. In my Venetian campaign, my advisor telling me that my troops were under fire and that I must 'Act now!' every time someone shot at them drove me absolutely insane - I would have him on the rack in two seconds if I could.
