They have released the second FAQ, this time dealing with the campaign map.
Most of it is old news but the last part sound interesting:

How will missions be assigned?
Missions are assigned by the Council of Nobles - this represents the great nobles whose main role is to give the player some guidance throughout the campaign by suggesting missions. Catholic nations will also be given missions by the Pope, with rewards or punishment depending on your standing with him. Players can also be assigned missions by any guild that they choose to build in their settlements. There’s a huge variety of challenging missions on offer.

Seems like they want to keep the game interesting by including those missions. I hope they really give benefits or even victory points of some sort. Say you have a merchants guild and the give you the mission to build a vast trading network, which will generate a certain amount of money, kind of like the Hanse thing in M:TW. I really hope that the missions will be meaningful and not just some guidelines for the new players, with real benefits to completing them! :2thumbsup:

Well I'm pretty sure that performing papal missions will increase one's standing with the pope. I'm not sure what significance these missions from guilds or councils of nobles would have. Perhaps completing the former would encourage a guild to establish its headquarters in one of your cities.

I'm hoping that one of the missions is to cut down the largest tree in the nearby forest with a herring!

Sorry, someone had to say that.

No doubt the hardest tasks will be the requisition of shrubberies.

"In order to establish our glorious guild of the nights who used to say 'Ni' we want you to..."
"What? Attack and capture a random settlement? Backstab my ally beacuse of some insignifican province? Conquer entire Byzantium on 5 turns?..."
"Nah that would be easy. Bring us a shrubery."

I would love to see some variety to the missions, like sending your princess on a diplomatic mission, constructing certain buildings, establishing a trade route. Romes got stale a tad as it boiled down to the same thing over and over.

Do the Council of Nobles actually represent the nobles in the game?
You should get loyalty bonuses for your most important generals if you do all the missions that they want - it should keep them happy.

One way to help curve that loyalty, of cours that can go both ways

I think improving loyalty is a great reward for doing council missions. Makes more sense than a monetary reward, to me.

I really like the direction they're going with the guildhalls. Sounds like a nice improvement on RTW's temples, and it makes a little more sense.
