As nice as features like these are, they soon become repetitive and I suspect most of us skip them. Far better IMO to concentrate resources on important things like AI than more eye candy

As always there remains the question if the Graphics guy who did those movies would make an equal performance on improving the AI. :inquisitive:

Orda, sure someone who is a pro in rendering movies will prolly have no idea about coding.. Or in other words, improving the AI. So I see no bad in it. And believe, a couple of first thrilling movies wouldn't be too bad.. (They will get repetitive, but, the thrill first time is worth it I think)

As long as they're not too long, load up quickly, and there is a lot of variation, I don't mind.
The great thing about the Shogun ones was that each movie came in twos - the same beginning with a different ending, so you never knew which one you were going to get.

This will probably be the same in M2TW. I've seen two movies with the same beginning: a assassination movie where the assassin hides behind next to a door. In one movie the door is slammed open and hits the assassin in the face => assassination gone wrong. In the other the door is just pushed open, a man steps in to the room and gets stabbed in the back by the assassin => assassination succeeded.
In an interview (I don't know which one) somebody said that there were so much movies that only the players that play the game for hours on end will see them all. That was probably an overstatement, but it indicates that there at least be some variation in the movies.

In case anyone was wonderinering the bink video player is free unless they changed that within the last year or so it's the editor you have to pay for. Quite a lot of games use it for thier in game videos. I have no idea what CA will be using but if they use bink or another commonly known video player you can access them without the hours of play.
So far I've been good about it waiting to see them in game as quite often they may not make any sense unless you played quite a bit of the game. Plus it has a whole lot more meaning when you watch it with your virgin eyes while playing the game.

....If and when the AI is discovered to be incompetant, I am sure there will be those who agree that resources should be channelled into important areas first. Once these important areas have been addressed, then is the time to pay some graphics guy to add flashy extras

Yes and enhanced the playing atmosphere of the game.

Graphic artists, wether they can program(well) or not typicaly would be getting in the way for the most part. You can only assign so many people to one job. And with programming more than 1 person on the job could actually slow down progress. Mainly due to the fact they have to know exactly what the other person is doing or there would be many conflicts in the programming and may actually have less progress due to the extra time needed in working out the bugs.

Assassination movies...The reason I got Shogun really. Then I got hooked.
I love them. The suspense! And if you're up a t 3:00 Am running only on Mountain Dew. Wow!
"Okay..Okay...he's pushing the cart...pushing...Wait...Did he twitch? Does that mean he's going to fail!? No...Oh crap...I cannot watch! Crap! How do you dodge a giant arrow!? And how does a diplomat kill a ninja hand-to-hand!?"
And when they sicked Geisha on me...Man...I just broke down...
"Come on! Ninja! Go! Get her! NO! She's camouflaged in the wall! Turn around Ninja! No Look out! Crap."

Because the diplomats were trusted inner circle samurai, leaders of households or even possibly ninja themselves performing another role...

Movies are a great addition to the feeling of the game, and if you get too bored with them, you can always skip them. For those disinclined to the idea, maybe "don't show movies" option?

If the game is good (STW) then the cut scenes add to the atmosphere (before they become repetitive and dull). If the game is less than good (no comment) then the cut scenes are just irritating no matter how good they are.
