This spill is a flagrant act of aggression against Israel, which could endanger the warships that are Illegally in Lebanon's soverign waters, as well as pollute Israel's beaches if the spill is large enough. Obviously israel is not defending itself actively enough and more defensive measures are required.

Anyone who thinks that Israel could in any way be held responsible for a disaster in Lebanon is probably a Nazi Terrorist sympathiser - or even worse a liberal

Are you being serious or just being ridiculously silly? Considering the German military (as a contributing member of NATO) did next to nothing to keep Milosevic from getting out hand in the Balkans I seriously doubt taking a road trip to Lebanon to spank the bottoms of the naughty IDF would have the slightest chance of success. Let's not even discuss the political, cultural and historical ramifications of having German & Jewish soldiers exchanging high explosive pleasantries. No, I'm not implying that modern Germany is in any way governed by Nazi ideology or practices but you can bet the legacy of that regime is the first thing that is going to pop into people's minds.

If you think the Israelis fought hard against the Arabs for the last several decades just imagine what would happen if your little scenario was played out. I also shudder at the thought of having to endure the ear shattering squeals emitted by the Israel government as it demands the US intervene on its behalf.. uggh.

...and, of course, it is impossible to guarantee a ceasefire or some sort of security for the teams that would help with the cleanup... I mean, we're in the middle of a war here, who gives a crap about ecology and the effects of the oil spill ? Besides, it would probably suit the IDF if a few more Lebanese die or are adversely affected by the stuff - it's all the more likely to kill a few Hezbollah members among them, right ?

The article says the spill was from a bombed powerstation, right? I'm against the bombing of powerstations as well but it certainly wasn't an oil refinery and I'm sure the goals weren't to create an oil slick. I think you guys are drawing some strange conclusions here :inquisitive:


The oil slick caused by Israeli bombing of a power station now covers 120km (75 miles) of the region's coasts.

EDIT: Furthermore I'm sure the oil slick will affect Israel as well, it's not as if Lebanon has much of a coastline before you get to Israel. I'm more concerned about the effect on health and water systems to work from the power station being bombed than the oil spill.
