View Full Version : Carthage Conquest Freeze

I've been playing a the romans a while and of course been at war with Carthage. I went around and killed all of their family members than when only the faction leader was left in Carthage, I gave them their territories back that I didn't want (I hate desert towns). All was well until I took Carthage: after the battle (I autocalc'd, I extremely outnumbered them), when I got to the occupy/enslave/exterminate option it froze when I selected one (any one).

At first I thought it was something to do with reinforcements (I had two armies near the town). I moved one away and tried again, it still froze.

I then thought that it may be a trait problem with Scipio Africanus or his son, leading the army, so I took them away and had just the army attack Carthage. It still froze.

I also tried attacking without the script activated or on a different date. Still no good.

After that I tried something different, I went in the character traits file found some traits that give bad personal security and gave them to the Carthage faction leader. I then assassinated him. It froze just before giving me the report that it was successful.

I now wonder if it has something to do with the desert settlements that never rebel. If they lose their owner do they not know what faction to become? I'll try taking all the desert holdings of Carthage and attacking her again...

Sorry to drone on... Has anyone else ever had a freeze like this when taking a city?

Edit: Oh yeah: I am using 0.7.4

I've heard of something like this happening before, but unfortunately I don't think there was/is a fix for it. I would make a save game at this time, then go to exterminate every city and hold it until carthage is completely wiped out. Only kill the family members in battle, don't assassinate anyone. It may be because the game requires a faction leader and heir, and if you've left them with only then it crashes. It may be best to back off from them, and make sure ptolemy doesn't decide to crush them while your not looking because that could possibly make it permanent.

I welcome the "droning on", actually - it shows you were very thorough in trying to get to the root of the CTD. Please post a save game so we can have somebody take a look at this. Can't promise when that will be, but after we fully incorporate all the new features into v.80, we'll want to revisit all the old unresolved bugs to see if they still exist - and your save-game will help us do that.

I feel that you should at least try to fix something yourself before complaining.

I never managed to figure out what was wrong and I ended up giving up and saving over the game (oops?). But I do know that waiting them out with a large enough army that they didn't sally forth and I just got the town, didn't work: freeze at the same point.

Thank you for your time and comment.
