Granted, this is a beta. But some people seem able to play the game as if it were finished. I, however, am not one of them. I get CTDs EVERY time I play. I've tried Romani, Bactria, Seleukids, Hellenes, and a bunch in between, most recently Getai (sp). I try the infamous, "move your agents around" fix, I try to do things differently. But I can never take a city. Ever. If I try, either the enemy sallies forth and I get a CTD, or I get a CTD when I assault it. It doesn't matter if I lift the seige and come back, or go to another city, nothing works.

If I fight in the open, I'm usually okay. It seems to be just assaults/sally. I can build and build; the game works great...unless I try to take a city. What's worse, is that the game has such promise, the chronic CTDs are frustrating because I'm totally missing out on a big aspect of the game.

I just hope you folks rectify as many of the problems as possible. I don't like to complain because I know you are all working for free, so I usually take what I can get in that regard. Additionally, I rarely play EB because of the CTDs; I just fired it up again because I was hoping it would work a little more smoothly. I'm sure you've got a ton of diligent beta testers that can provide you with all the feedback you need; sadly, I'm not one of them. But I am a fan. If my above post helps you in some way, great. You are running .74 right? Are you sure your downloads were fine? Sometimes using a download management program helps, allowing you to be sure you get the entire file instead of the IE downloader which can fail at any moment. I've had similar problems, but it was only with one faction. Every one you've tried failed? Bizarre. Unfortunately, there's not going to be any support since all work is going towards .8.

Just out of curiosity, are any bug reports for .74 relevant to .8, with the exception of spelling and similar things?

The only way you would have a CTD on every siege is if you are using multiple stacks, and getting the reinforcement CTD (and even that would only show up AFTER the battle). So barring that, it sounds like you might have a corrupted install. Please take a look at the FAQ and follow the directions exactly to ensure you have a clean install. (To include downloading new files for v.72 and v.74)

For the most part, no. I am still interested in getting saved games that feature the reinforcement CTD AND all-captain-led armies (if there's even one family member involved on either side, don't bother posting). Problems with traits and/or scripts are relevant, so we'd still like to see those. It would be nice if somebody could collect them all into a single thread, as the reports tend to be scattered and duplicated - plus our lack of traiting support lo these many months means that nobody was actively collecting them (something Malrubius was religious about).

As long as we're talking about traits, I remember in my Makedonian campaign how, when I used the traits update thing released in april, I'd get traits, but they would always show up as my general is a occasional drinker. I might even still have the save for that actually. Should I upload if I find it?

Probably not necessary. Just post the exact terminology and the nature of the problem, and the current traiting team should be able to track it down. Alternatively, since you have embarked upon a "home study" scripting course, you might take the opportunity to look up the "occasional drinker" trait and see if you can identify the faulty award mechanism.

No, I rarely use multiple stacks...I'm usually too poor to afford them at that point! I DID have a successful seige last night after I posted with Getai on a wall-less town. I was kinda shocked, so I'll try again tonight. I must have done something different.

I'm using .74 and I'm reasonably sure I have a good install. I followed the directions. Perhaps I will uninstall and wait until .8. I understand that no support is being offered for .74; just wanted to let you all know and see if you had any suggestings. Thanks again. I like the fact that you guys actually try to help me instead of making me feel like an idiot.

It doesn't take much effort to treat people nicely - frankly I have little use for people who use the anonymity of the internet to act out the aggressions they would never use in a one-on-one setting. Also we do provide support in the area of helping folks through install problems, and such - with a lot of very-much-appreciated help from friendly folks like Orwell here. But please don't uninstall v.74 and "Wait for v.80". The current release truly is very stable, and it's an enormous amount of fun to play.

*Secret Confession* Although i SHOULD be playing only our v.80 beta, I can't walk away from my v.74 KH game. I'm in a nasty war with armenia, who use a mixture of cavalry and infantry to such effect that i lose half of all battles involving same-size armies. Just a gripping campaign.
