It could be better. But overall, I am happy with it.

You feeling good lately?

I am content with my life. I am sitting up in bed, being looked after and then some by my wife and some of me da's imported Guiness while I recover. Life is good! (insert smilie).

Dude. My life rocks! I could not ask for anything better. I have attained every dream I have ever sought thus far, and others are all on the horizon. I don't know why the Lord favors me so. :2thumbsup:

You take it one day at a time baby, and today I've got the day off and no responsibilities whatsoever.

You have to treasure the little things that bring you happiness, they add up. I'm good at that. So I'm off to the local greasy spoon for my Saturday breakfast and the paper, then home for a nap on the couch, followed by a trip downstairs for a snooze, then maybe out back into the hammock for a rest. Ahhhhhh.

:coffeenews: As soon as I'm finished with my coffee and the paper I'll lift up my head and tell you that life... it's fine.

I'm delighted with my life. I've got a lovely family, excellent friends and no major health problems. I'm off to London to be a student next year, I've got a clearly defined path career-wise, and my whole life is ahead of me. I'm also really rather satisifed with me, and think I'm quite a cool person, really.

So, yes.

I wouldn't say happy, or unhappy but rather content. And if I had to choose one (which I did) I'd say I lean more towards being happy with my life as it has worked out pretty well so far, though there have been a number of dissappointments and things I would have rather not had to deal with, but that's life.

I won't be happy with life until the State Department gives me my damn green card so I can move to Texas. Then I will be happy.

My favorite questions:
What is your nationality and country of birth? both English.
.... then....
Do you speak fluent English?

Gah I wish I lived farther out in the country. Can't do as much here on the border. (suburbs for miles on one side of the road and farms and a buffalo ranch for miles on the other side) I literally live right on the border.

But I have food, shelter and clothes....and countless thing's I don't need so I am doing pretty good imo. It could be better though.

Life is good. Aced A-levels despite going to a state school, can legally buy spirits, have a pretty girlfriend, well-paying work lined up for a gap year, the opportunity to travel, and then a med-school place.

You poor man. Go to California! They have better cows, better football teams (pro and college), better sports teams in general, hotter and looser women, better gay people, and better sports teams and better beaches. And better sports teams.

Why would that help? It's not like you lose your pension plan when moving abroad, you know. The British oldsters will still pick up their slice of money and spend it in Spain instead of the UK, making things even worse.
You're deluding yourself. I've just been to both one after the other. California is so fake. Tex is where it's at.

Nah, it's only the laguna-beach-south that's fake. San Francisco and some of the northern parts, like Sacramento, are really great.

The fakes ones are from other states. This happens a lot when you live in a state that attracts an incredible amount of people.

Food, land, people, women (Real no plastic added) Mexicans (quality not quanity) an abudance of topography, NASA, Oil, Cowboys eTC.

The housing prices are expensive only because they are high.

Food - The only thing Texas does better in this category is BBQ. But California does barbeque so much better. When I moved to Colorado I thought at least they'd have some decent Mexican food. Its TERRIBLE! I've got to fly back to California for some food. Seafood is much better in California,

Land - Using your standards on Mexicans you win in quantity but not quality. There is a reason people pay so much for so little in California.

People- We have Texans in California! Lots of them. That guy who is in the movies. He is from Texas. Hmmm, although I will say of all the immigrants to California Texas didn't rank very high. Maybe thats because the Oregon trail (http://www.classicgaming.com/rotw/otrail.shtml) didn't go through Texas. Or they all got drowned in a river on the way over.

Women - Do you like pornographies ? If you do, Californias the place you ought to be!

Mexicans - Was Ceasar Chavez a Texan ? If he was that only proves your all communists. If he wasn't than I'm pretty sure he's a Californian. In which case you're all communists.

Topography - Under is where its at. And we've got lots of that.

NASA - JPL! JPL! JPL! Plus Boeing, Lockheed, and various other incredible companies that make lasers and missiles. Not to mention that all the thinking that built the internets was done in Calfornia.

Oil - We don't need oil. We run on Corn and hummus!

Cowboys - We have lots of those on TV.

Now I'll add some:

Oceans- Better waves and better sharks in California. Overall better ocean food.

Weather - We've got it all. Hot, cold, and everywhere in between. Mountains, deserts, valleys, redwood rainforests, bigfoot, shamu. Everything.

Citys - With San Francisco we got that covered. If you don't have transvestites for sale or fear for your life or walk around in your underpants or can't pee in public its not a city. I don't think anywhere in Texas qualifies.

Am I pleased with it? No. I'm not saying I have a bad life, infact in terms of the oportunities I've been given I'm quite lucky. But it could always be better, and the moment I'm pleased with my lot is the moment I stop seeking to improve it.

There's a difference between pleased and content. I am very, very pleased with my life, but of course I continue to strive for better. I mean, with the two ladies pictured here:

I'd have to be an utter ingrate not to be thankful for the blessings I have each and every day.

Oh yeah, DA, I forgot to tell you... you have no idea how good life can possibly be, but you're about to find out... give it I believe three months now? Sometime in October, right?

At the moment I'm very pleased with my life and I see no reason why that should change any time soon. Friends aren't a problem, family is (overly) supportive, and education wise I'm not in any position to complain either.

Plus living in Holland isn't that bad you know ~;)

Nice picture Don.

And you're absolutely right, about how good life can be with love and a family. Here's the girl that makes my life so wonderful:

Mrs Ghost and I don't have a small Ghost yet, but I sold my business and downshifted recently so that we have the right conditions for bringing one up. My father was away a lot working so I have tried to make sure I had a good basis for a family and lots of my time to devote before we tried for one.

Now I have a wonderful, non-stressful job and small ghost is on the agenda. And ain't it a fun agenda? :2thumbsup:

Ghost. You make re-prioritizing to de-stress a wonderful idea.

I can't even imagine just lowering my ambition enough to accomodate enjoyment of life. Right now I am so overloaded the only way I can inject fun is to drink heavily.

A slow pace... *sigh* It is my ultimate goal. But will I live to see it? I want to enjoy my kids... and one day grandkids....

Your lovely gal and simple life make me wonder at my own priorities.

Well DA, you have to realise I'm at the other end of the curve from you. I'm 44, got my MBA and built my business. I did the long nights, the endless travel, the stress (not really, because stress comes from not having control and being at the whim of others, and I ran my business so it was up to me to solve any problems - no point in stress).

Now it's time for the much nicer stuff.

Be careful with that drink thing though.

Oh and another example of my life kicking ass: After my MRI, the Doc said my knee injury is a partially torn MCL but that it is healing just fine all by itself and I don't need surgery! :2thumbsup:

B's Ghost: You aren't too far on the other end of the curve my friend. I consider 44 to be mid-career, and I'm still mid-career myself (even though I am in career change). I cannot imagine slowing it down at 44- that used to seem a long time away. I'll be slaving away until I'm 60. I'll retire from the FD at 55, then I plan on moving up to executive level emergency services management. Maybe state or federal. I'll probably be working until I'm dead.

Maybe I should just retire early and open up a coffee shop. Or a tavern. :2thumbsup:

Nah. I have too much to try and fix in government to stop. But I still envy you in many ways.

Don Corleone
08-25-2006, 01:02
Bah, DA. He's European. He thinks he's cruising into early retirement. :laugh4:

All kidding aside, are there any other fiscal conservatives out there that are concerned about the number of late middle age people seeking to retire early (age 50-60)? In light of how much older you might live, I'm 36 and looking at my meager savings (and I put away 10% every year) I'm terrified and plan on working till they boot my ass out. What happens if you planned to live to 75 and retire at 62, then live to 90? You could wipe your kids out (or, as my plan B goes, pull a Hemmingway). Is this a phenomenon in Europe too, or just here in the good ole, 'hard-working' USofA?

At this point in time, not particularly.

I made some rather large decisions lately that I wouldn't make if I had the chance to go again. But, hey ho, you live and learn and make the best of what you have.
