View Full Version : BI an eye sore, is there a Mod that helps?
I have bought BI for months now, and every time i start a game i am turned off by the flashy colors on the units, it's just too much for me... I never manage to go beyond a few turns.
I would like to try the game as is, with no mods in balance or the map or the interface, so im really just asking if there is a mod that simply changes the skins, or how easy it is to use "the skin part" of one of the great mods available to do it.
Thanks.
I agree, units do look pretty poor (lol, Sassanid spearmen, god knows what the CA skinner was thinking then), but the game is better.
Anywho, cant say iv got any mods (I play mp, so no mods for me), but just check http://twcenter.net download's section.
I don't see flashy colours being a problem.
In fact I would absolutely hate not being able to tell who is fighting what and the bright colours make it easier to tell units apart.
I did check some full mods and they do make the battlefield a bit too caotic. A color code is useful, i just think they went over the top on BI. Basic RTW was better in that regard.
I posted a few screenshots to advertise Goth's All Factions mod yesterday:

Check out the third screen especially - it's beautiful. A lot of the skins were done by Attila Reloaded and I think others, but Goth has done additional work and put it together into a really superb reworking of BI. It has the same fundamental structure as BI, but longer battles & more AI challenge. In addition, it is a very stable mod - no crashes. I don't know why it is not higher profile here - it rivals RTR and EB in my esteem.
BTW, I've never had a problem identifying my own units - even when the AI is fielding identical ones. The mods I play tend to slow down the combat and anyway the bad guys are usually the ones trying to kill you.

That he didn't have time to make a wicker sheild probably. That's the only thing "wrong" with a Sassanid spearman, he has a German sheild. Other than that pretty accurate. I've seen them represented with a helmet (or what looks like one, small picture) and without.
I must looked at some shots from Goth's mod. Why do TW re-modellers think that an intricate sheild design makes a better skin carried by a guy in a dull brown/green/white tunic. :wall: It doesn't!

I was actually going for they dont have any detail and look rubbish, not realism.

Um, maybe because back in those days soldiers did have dull brown/green/white tunics and shields with intricate designs on them, perhaps? :dizzy2:
No they all didn't. Plain tunics probably, but the skins in TW are supposed to take the faction colours. But intricate sheild desgins, very few.
