The most interesting,is the fact that a commander who is leading an army for a crusade, now moves on the campaign map at double speed and that he doesn't have to pay upkeep costs for his troops :2thumbsup:

Good. The increased movement speed will be appreciated and the no maintenance thing is still in effect.

Sounds good, the interviewer really does sound corny though lol.

Overall quite good, but I am rather disappointed that a guy making a medieval game dealing with the discovery of America hasn't bothered to read up enough to know that the Flat Earth Myth (i.e. that medieval people, or in some cases everyone before the modern age, believed the world was flat). Probably, the occasional unlearned fellow could believe such things (we don't really know, as they don't leave behind sources for us to read) but academics and learned men knew very well the world was round - it is attested in countless treatices on a wide variety of subjects, both clerical and secular, during the entire middle ages. The globus cruciger (the orb-and-cross symbol used together with the sceptre to symbolize kingship) in fact represents the "orb of the world".

I like the idea that if you stray from your target then you will start losing your crusader troops :2thumbsup:

I still wonder what happens to failed crusader armies, do you just get gifted with an awesome army deep in enemy territory, or is there some penalty? CA?

I would guess that you lose the army considering that you are no longer on a crusade.

Otherwise you would be able to abuse them :P
Yeah.
Otherwise you might do what Venice did in the fourth crusade(I think), Went halfway and said "screw it" and attacked Constantinopel(sp??) instead.

One interesting part of this was the focus on the new world as an economic base. From the map posted a couple of weeks ago, it appears that's indeed the case -- there were four or possibly five territories? Not much in the way of conquest. Defending it, on the other hand, will probably be a horrendous task.

It would be interesting to find more detail on trade from the new world. Shipping back gold? Sounds helpful!

I'm somewhat disappointed that this podcast suggests that the player won't be able to employ native auxiliaries in the new world, since in reality these were vital to conquering Europeans.

If it was possible, I can imagine armies of Aztecs being brought back to fight in Europe. That wouldn't be good in my opinion.

If you don't want to spend agest downloading, you can get the podcasts direct from www.totalwar.com. They only contain the CA interview and cut out the rest of the TWC stuff.

No New World Mercenaries? The pod cast was not exactly clear on the subject. I eman you will not be able to ally with rival tribes but i would expect them to through some native mercs in there...

Of course this maybe utterly unrealistic and we have not seen how or even if there is any mercenaries in the M2TW...

As for failed Crusader armies, good question... Maybe then get a free trip back to the nearest friendly province as before...

Another question is whether they will get the free pass to cross other christain factions lands like before?

As will the double movement apply to ships they are loaded onto? With the RTW ship mechanic at least you and load you crusade up on to ships and sail there without have to walk across europe and fight your way to the middle east...

I like the way they give the Jihads a defensive bent, but from what has been said if you flood a province with religious agents and switch the predominent relgion to Islam you should be able to use Jihads offensively (of course that is rumour so far)...
