I am currently vinishing a vanilla v1.5 brutii campaign to open up the other factions. I want to go through again as something else, but I'm looking for something to spice up the game. I was planning on the un-official bug fix, but I've heard a lot of good things about Rome Total Gameplay as well. I'm looking for suggestions on the best way to spice up my game. What I'm looking for is bug fixes, but also some AI correction for better combat...things of that nature. I don't need a lot of changes, just to make the AI act and re-act better.

also, im looking for a simple mod that gets rid of a lot of the goofy units so the AI makes better selections for it's armies, if anyone can suggest something I would really appreciate it.

All feedback is welcome, any other mods I may have missed that you recommend definately let me know. I'm not looking for a brand new game or a total conversion, just something to make R:TW the way it was made, better. I'm not averse to changes like RTG though, like adding more provinces and things of that nature.

I've played with the bug fixer mod since I first got the game, has a lot of changes (most small, but can be significant over the course of a campaign) in it that make more sense then the way it was coded in vanilla versoins. Your not going to be ooheh and awed by it, but its what "vanilla" should have been like in the first place IMHO.

As for mods, I'd recommend Lusted's Terrae Expugnandae mod, I really like the changes and additoins they made in that one the best myself. The SQPR mod was good too, but haven't played it for quite a while so not sure what the latest version is like.

For starters, I´d recommend the Bug Fixer (because that´s what it does - it fixes bugs) and, if you want a bit more of a challenge in battles, the Darth Formations for vanilla. I very much like that combination, because, basically, I happen to like the vanilla game.

I can´t really give advice on what mod to use, so far I haven´t used any mod to replace the vanilla gameplay -I do use Chivalry, Citadel, LotR and METW, though, but that´s because they are completely differently themed.

Don´t expect wonders from any mod, though, there´s only so much modders actually can do.

Well EB will give you a much bigger, better map, four turn years (1 for each season) more factions (well only one roman faction, opening up slots for other more interesting factions) better AI, Wonders of the World, more units (all of them are realistic, no wardogs or screaming women) and better looking, realistic battles, areas or recruitment (meaning if you take over gaul as the romans, your units will be auxilia from Gaul, you won't be able to build the same units you had in Italy), governments, a entirely new (and better) traits system, new music with a different set each culture, a new nomad system, and cool features like the Olympics from Hellenic factions, returning Alexander's body to Greece, Triumphs for Roman generals, more reforms, and reforms for other nations other than Rome. I'm sure I'm missing things, the fact is EB is incredible.

Best thing is, .8 is coming out soon and will be for Rome 1.5!

I'd wait for it, it really does wonders for the game, it becomes so much engaging... especially since vanilla RTW is so easy to beat, this actually gives you a challenge. I guess some would say its a total conversion, but it does provide by far the best campaign AI (uses scripting to enchance AI) and a decent battle AI.
