hello guys, a question for the those who know a lot about computers, software, hardware
if i want to make an online campaign option myself how can i scramble the data used in the game in that way that even i cant read the data.
i like to scramble simple ASCII-related-data-text-files... how is this properly done?
Not sure off-hand, but I can check with my colleagues. I've got alot of work on at the moment so give me time, but if you haven't heard in a week post me a reminder
Write an encryption routine. Simple. Then use a function to decrypt the data within the program loop.
If you need simple encryption routines... hehe... hmmm... where did I put those... Oops... gotta switch the keys! *giggle* *giggle*
But seriously, I do have a DLL somewhere that will do this for you... you just install it and use it from your VB/VB Script/ASP code... just 2 functions: Encrypt and Decrypt... doesn't get any easier than that...
I assume you plan to do this from a web site somewhere... right? If so, I would think that you would use some kind of database to store results/moves/etc in. I think designing that properly would be more important that encrypting the moves/etc.
Perhaps if I knew more about your intentions, I could tell you if this would work. After all... anyone WITH the DLL could potentially decrypt that which you are trying to conceal... if they knew certain things that is...

hi
i was thinking of making some kind of campaign game, i just should have done this months ago but i cant do it with java or something like that. i have visual basic skills, enough to make a pc version.
i am still thinking what is necessarry to make it a quick, playable campaign but didnt know how to encrypt the textfiles i wanna use. i dont wanna use databases like access cause it is too cumberfull for just a few files...
just a file with all data of a player which he only can open by the priogramm by using a passsword or whatever.
i am thinking of this campaign tool since i figured it can be used with many games once it is done... but still i hope it is all unnecessarry http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif
You'll find what you want on the web. I was wondering what you were going to do, somehow I was hoping it would be something more subversive http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif
As for decrypting anyone who really wanted to would be able to quite quickly.

I thought you were going to publish a web site where people would log into a campaing, submit their moves, and wait for the turn to end, at which point a list of battles to play out could be made available and each player in a battle would then submit their logfiles for each battle...
Geez... such grandiose dreams I had for your campaing thingy... and you bursted my bubble!

And I agree on the decrypt thing... it is only good to against indifferent or unmotivated hackers... the determined ones will get it...

Do not despair, there can't be that much difference between a webserver- and a "play by e-mail/file"- campaign, can there? http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif
Excelent Magyar Khan, it would be really really nice to have a general purpose campaign tool. Quote ... but still i hope it is all unnecessarry http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif[/QUOTE] ohhh, I don't know, if it means you will be making a great versatile MP campaign-mode then ..... http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
