Before I download a mod...

Do I need R:TW actually on my computer? I had to uninstall and am now waiting for discs II and III in the mail from my parents where I accidentally left them.

Sorry if this is addressed elsewhere, I didn't know where to look for the info and I've never played a mod so I don't know if I need the game on there or if mods are self-reliant.

Yes, you will need RTW installed on your computer to use mods. Also note that different mods need different versions (patches) and some require the Barbarian Invasion expansion.

You don't actually need RTW on your computer to _download_ a mod. It's just a file. But you do need it to play a mod, of course.
