Businesses sue those who hire illegal workers (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14469040/)

Frustrated businesses took their fight against illegal immigration to court Tuesday, filing the first in a series of lawsuits accusing competitors of hiring illegal workers to achieve an unfair advantage.I think this is fantastic. Companies who follow the law are being placed at a clear disadvantage compared to those who hire illegally and get a de-facto labor subsidy. Border security is fundamental- but we also need to do what we can to punish those that employ illegals and dry up the demand for them.

Next maybe we'll see politicians brought to court under RICO for benefitting from companies who employ illegals. :laugh4:

The most obvious step would be it voiding from government contracts companies (and directors of them) that use illegals... probably frame it like a bankruptcy that they are excluded from contracts for x number of years, make sure the directors are in the line otherwise it will just be shell companies and a shell game.

In the UK, businesses can be fined if they hire illegal immigrants and the onus is on them to prove that those they are hiring are entitled to work in the UK. It is a new regulation which could pose problems for natives. My passport is out of date, so if I applied for a job, how would I prove that I was legal?

By showing them your national insurance card? Driving license? Birth certificate?
I don't think I've ever had to show my passport to an employer.

I think it is a great idea but it is BS that they have to, the government ought to be all over the business that are breaking the law! :sombrero: There are cops all over the highway looking to bust me if I speed or if I am not wearing my seatbelt but who is going after these lawbreaking businesses! Companies who are trying to do business the right way shouldn’t have to waste their time on crap like this. :veryangry2:

Oh jeez, don't get me started on speeding enforcement. :furious3:

The simple fact is, speeding tickets are a revenue generating enterprise- arresting real criminals costs them money.
