Are you 100% positive that you installed over a correct R:TW installation? On what did you install it?
We have tested the map dozens of times, so I would be very surprised if there was something odd going on (could always be but still).
Now let's kick some Russian ***!
Thank you guys for an incredible mod!

Hmm I have re-unstalled RTW but it still crashes, ill try again.
At last! It's out! Champagne and fireworks!
Best birthday gift I got today. Thanks Lordz. I can't wait for it to finish downloading.

09-02-2006, 09:34
did you get patches 1.3 and 1.5?
Hmm... problem. Are custom battles supposed to be working properly? After setting up the armies and clicking the button to continue, the screen goes back to the battlefield choice and doesn't continue from there. Any ideas?
*edit*
My mistake, it actually goes back to the faction selection screen, not battlefield selection.

Yes I have installed both patches.

what version for RTW do you have? 1.5? is it the Gold edition?
what shortcut are you using to launch the mod?
I'm using BI. The original shortcut didn't work for some reason. I made a BI.exe shortcut, copy pasted the - commands from the NTW shortcut and it worked fine. But yeah, the custom battles don't work. The Borodino one did however. Are custom battles working for everyone else?
Let me take this opportunity to thank the Lordz again, this is truly an incredible piece of work. Very professional, I almost can't believe it when I wat playing. It's a whole new game.
Btw, has the camera angle and movement and such been changed? It seems to be rotated a bit, looking down more.
Great mod! Still, my units don't always do what i tell them to do... But.. wow! This mod really takes rome total war several steps further, the battlefield sounds, (I like the music also) the soldiers, the surroundings, everything!
Lord Zimoa of Flanders

I assume you are talking about the Borodino scenario, this is because units are not avaliable right from the start, more and more when you progress the scenario.
Also when crossing bridges, villages the units width have to be smaller than the width of the obstacle you want to cross or pass.
As the Lordz forum is down we have set up a temporarily forum at TWC, there is a FAQ stickied thread overthere with some more explanation.

The camera angle is easy to fix. Goto game options I beleive and select the camera for RTS mode. For some reason its defaulted to a different view. Solid mod, a few things I find annoying or puzzling and the crossing rivers/villages part is rather annoying especially as no one knows about it, but a decent mod overall, thanks.

Thanks and compliments for the excellent and professional mod. I hope you can consider a M:TW2 version with a campaign mode, and of course that the Waterloo pack will came soon.

I understand, but the problem is the RTW pathfinding that is, and we are polite here: not really great.
So we had a choice or create challenging tactical maps with a lot of crossings, bridges, swamp, villages etc... hat add up to the MP battle experience, and hope people would pick up the fact that they now have to resize units to cross them. Or use the rather dull featureless RTW maps, where the units can move without problem as there are no obstacles that can provide more tactical challenges.
We decided to go for the first option, NTW2 cannot played the same as RTW, but once you get the swing of it, we believe it is much more fun and challenging now.
Good news is that CA also admits there was a problem, and what I read they have changed much for the better in MTW2, concerning challenging battle maps and much better unit pathfinding.

Wow. I've barely had a chance to play yet (taken that first village), but this is incredibly slick. The music is perfect, the graphics in general are great, and in particular I love the drawn art such as the splash screen. Extremely impressed thus far.
Only issue is a number of typos or clumsy grammar, but that's hardly a problem with the rest being so good. I'm definitely looking forward to that Waterloo expansion!

Any chance of balance alterations as things go? Ive never modded before and I have no idea how difficult it would be. Examples are the Old Guard morale and damage seemingly is underpowered compared to counterparts, cavalry being vastly underpowered, etc. The game in an of itself is great, but I question why Guard units rout in hand to hand combat with normal Russian Grenadiers 4 out of 5 times in a straight melee fight, or lose a firing dual against Musketers 3 out 5 times in the same situations. A friend and I have been experimenting pitting units together in 1vs' to see outcomes to see if we were hallucinating or not.
I plan on giving a run down on my radio show this week. Expect some serious public kudos, Napoleonic minitures games are what alot of us have been waiting for!

Great MOD, can't wait to see how you will re-create Waterloo, and perhaps Quatre-Bras and Lingy?

The British for MP together with an update on the first release are only a couple of weeks away.

awsome can't wait to hold the thin red line lol.
So can you give us any clue how the Prussians will be dealt with in Waterloo?
Will you perhaps have an alternate version in which Grouchy reaches the field in time?
Oh yeah another one, are you going to increase the selection of troops? Include more of the Guard unit types?
Also will you increase the range of rifles?
Lord Zimoa of Flanders
09-04-2006, 10:20
First the historical battles we have on the list that is more than enough for now.
-French Middle Guard and Red Guard lancers units for Waterloo are on the list as we need them for Waterloo.
-Yes, Rifles get longer range, more accuracy, slower reload speeds and are smaller units.

first rtw mod ive tried and im very impressed
i was a huge fan of imperial glory until i fought my first battle (lol) and realised it was a no morale fight to the death
this good be just what im looking for
very impressed with the unit graphics and animations but my only gripe would be to have the men stay in the aiming gun position a fraction longer as they appeare to aim a little quickly but then im a picky bugger
will there be a campaign?
if so this could really take off
The Spartan (Returns)
09-04-2006, 21:23
they didnt put a campaign because they said the AI has no way of using Napolenic tactics whatsoever.
however i believe this is untrue as there are modders that can mod the descr_formations_ai.txt
such as Darth Formations and Sinhuet's Formations.

It will change not a thing or better the problems we see with the AI, be my guest and show us how, by changing formations, this would solve the RTW AI shortcomings I summed up briefly here:
http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=60843
We are very curious within The Lordz how you see that.
I can tell you we looked at it intensily and some of the best modders of the TW commmunity do not see how it can be done without hardcoded changes only CA could provide, but people simply refuse to accept it or believe we looked hard enough. Or we do not know what we are talking about or simply do not see the solution. You say it is untrue what we stated so please show us the light.

heh, im not capable of doing that.
i thought the Lordz didn't check it out already so if you guys already did, then it is probably impossible that the ai can use the games tactics.

formations can improve AI army cohesion and timing, but they are not magic things that make the actual use of units any better. It might work for roman themed mods, but not for ours (too much missile units).

Great update and glad to see the Brits coming along quickly. I do have a quick few questions that you may have answered, but Ive not found. im planning on doing a run down on my show this Sunday and Id like to know the following (if you can tell us)
1. Are you planning on releasing other factions such as Austria, Prussia, Sweden, Spain and the like?
2. Will the French get extra units in the next release like the Middle Guards, Empress Dragoons, Red Lancers etc?
3. WIll these all tie together, meaning factions will be chooseable in Multiplayer with russia, france, britian etc being in the same game, or will these be stand alone mods?
Lord Adherbal
09-07-2006, 09:53
1. Prussia is planned for a distant future, Dutch and Brunswick will be released in October.
2. Middle Guard and Red Lancers will be added
3. it's an upgrade, you will need the Borodino pack. All factions will be available in MP.

Hi Lordz,
First off congratulations on releasing the mod. It looks superb, a whole new game practically.
Problem though, I've been trying to get it started and the game keeps hanging when it loads up. Says that certain terrain files like the redoubt are not found. It happens in both the Borodino battle and the custom battles.
Anything I'm doing wrong here? I've got the game installed to E drive but otherwise its in the regular place.
Thanks,
