Missing Turk units

Hi all I'm playing XL as the turks in the high period on expert. I'm into 1345 in the game and had been looking forward to my new kickass units turing up in 1321 onwards.

However after building a 'Military ac' in constand' and teching up in Rum and Anatolia I'm still missing any type of Janisary unit, heavy or archery etc :dizzy2: I've got the otto inf' and the sip' of Porte' ok. Has anyone had something like this?

I have master level on all building except swordsmith and armourer, these are at Guild level (in Rum and Anatolia) Constand' has mainly offices then arms makers could this play a part?

Any ideas welcome

The only Turk units that come into being at 1321, IIRC, are the Ottoman units such as the Sipahi, Infantry and Sipahi of the Porte. The Janissary units are available from 1205 onwards (though they shouldn't be historically) if you have teched up to meet the building prerequisites, which are a military academy in the province in which they are to be trained as well as the required armourer/spearmaker/swordsmith level building etc.

necessary buildings for:
JHI: mil academy+ master spearmaker
JI: mil acad + master bowyer + swordsmith guild
JA: mil acad + master bowyer

And the Military Academy requires that a Grand Mosque be first built - dont' forget that! :juggle2:

ok hold the horses for a second....am I understanding this correctly,

these units can only be built in the province that contains the Military Academy? So even if I teched up to the right level in other provinces they will be un-available there?

So if I tech up to the right level in the province that has my 'MA' will this open up the units to build in other provinces at the right level of tech or mean that these troops are all centrally built to the 'MA' province?

There's a somewhat "cheezy" exploit that permits multiple Military Academies to (eventually) be built: build your Grand Mosque, then start construction of the MA. Destroy the first GM, start another one in another province - as soon as it is complete, start another MA. Repeat until no longer needed.

Correct. That's a sad thing since there is more than one province giving a bonus to Janissary units IIRC (BTW are the Turks able to recruit Hashishin? I don't think so, but if they are, they also would have to be built in the same province because of the required Grand Mosque).
The exploit described by Geezer57 provides a remedy, but consumes quite a lot of time, so you should make sure to start in High to have enough breathing space for the buildup. Janissaries already become available in High anyway, even if they shouldn't.

Georgia is famous for it's Janissary Archers and Bulgaria for it's Janissary Heavy Infantry. It's pretty obvious which province you should build your grand mosque in if you're heavily into Janissaries. Janissary Archers aren't much use, so there's really only one choice.

If like me, and you only train limited Janissaries, then you may want to build your Grand Mosque in another province to boost the morale of the troops trained there at a bonus, troops that unlike Janissaries could do with a morale boost. This is why I usually build my grand mosque in either Rum, Tripoli or Lesser Armenia.

yes the Hashishin can be built by the turks. and they can be built outside the province that contains the grand mosque as along as they have ribat and a master swordsmith.
