I've this doubt since I first played RTW, so I'll ask it here. Is there any way to create a new city in game? My idea is this (just to clearify this is not a suggestion to the EB team wich already has a lot of work, is just so I can get my ideas right):
0- The game starts.
1- There's no cities.
2- There's only an original tribe for each faction, wich can become sedentary if you'll, or remain nomadic.
3- The tribe (represented by a general figure) can establish three types of provisionary buildings. A fort (as always), a camp and finally a village (or it could be all reduced to forts -Then at any time one can choose to improve that fort to a village).
4- The village then starts to take the place of the vanilla city in various ways:
a-Every city has it's own area of control, so perhaps my idea is already impossible to achieve (adding the problem of the paths between cities to add roads later), unless this city takes control of an area when it creates a village in it, the area being prestablished.
b-Every village becomes a city:
b'- Every city has it's own area of control (like Roma controling the center of Italy) but the area is circular and not irregular (as in vanilla).
b''- Every city takes control of a predetermined area (as in method 'a') but you can also create other minor cities in the same area. The area reamains irrgular in shape.
b'''- Same as method 'b' but the area is randomly defined in the instant you create the village, then all cities after that, wich have a fronteir with the first one, adapt their borders (again randomly) to the next city (establishing a maximum of size for every area).
5- One can destroy any city at any point if one owns it, and then construct another village in the same area.
6- There could be a limit to the quantity of cities built at a time for every faction, wich I think already exists.

Anyway... Can this be done? Or is there another possible method wich could fullfil my idea?

I'm pretty sure it is impossable

i don't think it would work very well...although the idea is excelent, the game is hardcoded, not allowing that, and after that, many of the cultures we can play with, at the begining of the game were very well established, and the major portion of cities in those times, already existed since the bronze age, and even earlier, only exchanging hands and changing names through the years and through military action...but if it was possilbe to found new cities dividing provinces emulating the founding of cities many states did back then, especially in the "barbarian" world such as gaul, Iberia, and other less greek/roman places..it would be great(i would love to found Nabantia, Concordia, and recolonize Scallabis), but alas that's impossible with RTW...

i think what you are thinking of playing is a bit along the lines of Rise of Nations/CIVgames....TW series right now don't allow it, although the Area of Control would be a welcomed adition cuz i don't like the "laser rigorosity" defined provinces we get with RTW...i would like to have contested lands between provinces, with minor frontier skirmishs, but thats not possible, i would love to see the atriction efect of RON implemented to RTW though, with armies geting damage for being in enemie territory, cuz the peasants and citizens who could not run would fight and make casualties(if very few) to the invader...it would be a lot more realistic..and add a much more stategic sense to raids and incursions on Enemie territory, counting the turns so not to sustain to many casualties and avoiding players to starve cities into submission so easily, having to resolve sieges faster...

That is a completely different game unfortunately, and is ambition far beyond the games limitations.

I see now. It was an historic misconception, I forgot that we're not talking about prehistoric world here. Anyways what you said plus what I said. I still think it's impossible, but let's see what other people say, perhaps someone can surprise me.:2thumbsup:
