Ok, one of the reasons I bought Total War eras for 60 bucks was so that I could avoid this crap. I just bought it last night and am playing Shogun. Well my last medieval total war (not from the package) worked fine until I uninstalled then re-installed it. And then sometimes it wouldn't load to the map and just go right to the desktop (acting if I exited the game) and if I were to sometimes click on a province/option it would very randomly shut off and go back to the desktop too.
Now, brand new Shogun seems to be doing the same thing. Last night over a span of 6 or so hours it only did it twice. Now in the span of less than 10 minutes its done it 3 times. Now, it has only done the second of these things so far but I'm fearing for the worst. Is there a patch, a type of resolution I should use? I'm friggin' desperate. I also can't seem to even freaking quit the game without it freezing. So I bought this friggin expensive package so I could enjoy the games that I love and it seems I can't.
Also, FYI if it is necessarry, I have a windows XP very new computer. Only bought in late april. It's an HP. With an upgraded graphics card (don't know the name) so it shouldn't br a problem of running it.

make that 6 times now. Last night it's frequency was MUCH less....frequent. but it seems to be stopping within just a couple minutes each time. FYI, I'm shimezu in the country at war period. Just in case there is a bug for that clan/period.
This seems like a common problem. I can think of a few people that might know a solution to this. If they don't post here soon, I'll alert them on this thread.
As for now, just save your game every turn.
Now I think of it, there might be a way to mod shogun, in order to have it auto-save more often. Not sure about that, but it would help a lot if the game was auto-saved every minute.
Good luck!

Well quite frankly I don't want to mod a game (mainly because I am not techno-savvy AT ALL) and This game shouldn't be doing this anyways.
I cant save everyturn because I usually can't even get through a turn!:wall:
Ouch. When it's that bad, you really need help to be able to enjoy the game.:sweatdrop:
I'll seek for some solutions through the forums. :book:

Yeah it's real bad. I've even tried saving in increments per turn (which is VERY tedious) but that gets old real fast. Any help and advice you or anyone else may supply me will be very much appreciated. Right now I'm just going to sit by my computer seething for a bit.:furious3:
Not found anything good yet searching. However I found out that you can save with 'Control+S' while in the campaign map screen. I'm not sure wether you save the game to autosave or to the saved game you loaded, though. It might be of any help. Yet, if you crash every turn, the game is still spoiled..
Well, while waiting, you might want try check out the Samurai mod. It's a mod for MTW, designed much like shogun. It looks very nice, and lots of people seem to like it, so you might want to play it as well. It has it's own forum here: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=105

Well thank you for the idea but I don't think MTW will work (my MTW ((not from the package)) was the first one to show this problem) So I don't think it'll work.

I've just found out for at least this specific instance (there were others though) when I picked up my assassin and dropped it on a specific emissarry it would exit the game. But when I dropped on two random generals it gave me the option. So.... I'm so confused on why this is happening:dizzy2:

Hi Defasciti. As I read through this thread, I didn't think I was going to be able to help you, but that last bit of information is key.
There is a bug in Shogun (not in MTW though, to my knowledge) that causes a CTD every time, and has for as long as I've been playing Warlord Edition (many years). Here's how it works:
When you use multiple agents (emissaries, ninja, or geisha) to perform their action on the same unit stack (use multiple emissaries to offer an alliance to the same daimyo, or multiple ninja or geisha to assassinate the same enemy, etc.), if one succeeds, don't touch any of them to which you gave the task on the turn that you succeed!. If you pick one up, the instant you drop it anywhere, the game will CTD. After you advance to the next turn, you can use them normally without problems.
It's easy to avoid this (by heeding this advice), but easy to forget. Hence, Drisos' suggestion to use [CONTROL]+[S] before advancing to the next turn on each turn is a good one (this is a keyboard shortcut for quicksaving). This way, if you do forget and CTD in this manner, you can load up the game again, load any game, and then press [CONTROL]+[L] to quickload your most recent quicksave.
This should address the last problem you described. I'm not sure about the other problems involving maps. I've not encountered problems like that with either STW/WE or MTW/VI. I hope this has been helpful.

Thanks for that info. But I deleted my game and started on Hojo and it didn't seem to mess up, though I didn't really play for too long. With this, now I am ranting in the MTW main hall about MTWs and the package in general, seeming massive problems.
I hope it stays well. It's weird that a reinstall might have deleted the problem, while you only installed shogun a few days ago..:dizzy2:

Well so far so good. I tried it again with the same clan and it hasn't messed up yet, thank God. Now I need to work on my MTW game problems:wall:
Thanks for all your help!:2thumbsup:
Ok, I've had the exact same problem BUT this thread is filled with many others who share the same boat: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=52406
Overall it seems that you need to install an older nVidia display driver to solve the problem (hopefully you have an nVidia card that's causing it), version 53.03 which can be found here: http://www.pny.com/support/drivers/?prod=verto Click on "Verto GeForceFX Driver 53.03 WHQL Candidate" The driver doesn't work for 6 series cards and above, so you may need an older video card if this is the case. Credit goes to elbasto for the info. Hope it works!
