You are going to need to provide more information for anyone to help you.
FIRST - have you got -show_err on your shortcut????
If you have and it isn't giving you a message, please explain a little more about what you altered. Is descr_strat the only file you changed? (If you only changed small areas of descr_strat could you copy and paste them into your reply?) Are you just changing the files within an existing campaign folder or did you make a new folder for a provincial campaign?
When you attempt to start the campaign, how far (to which screen) does it get? When it stops does it crash to desktop or go back to the previous menu?
I dont have the -show_err in the shortcut, but the game doesnt crash to desktop.
I changed ALL the descr_strat file, the only file, I just added new units for make the campaign some more fun.
I click provincial campaign, i select the campaign and i select the faction, i click in the arrow for start the campaign and..turns back, and i cant play the campaign

You have what is commonly refered to here as a KTM (Kick-back To Menu)
if you put -show_err on your shortcut it should direct you to the error.
to do this right click the desktop shortcut you start the game from, select properties, and in target box after " add a space and then -show_err
so it looks like
"X:\blah\blah\Rome - Total War\RomeTW-BI.exe" -show_err
click 'apply', then start the game from that shortcut.
The same thing will happen to you when you attempt to start game you will go back to menu, click exit on both screens to leave game and hopefully as you leave the program it will give you an error message.
If you don't understand error message, write it down and post in reply.

Try deleting your map.rwm - thats meant to only refer to regions / map problems, but if you don't delete it you sometimes keep getting the same error.
(sorry Byzantine Emperor if you were waiting to reply to this , but I'm off on holiday soon so its all over to you then - and unfortunately I look more like my avatar on twcenter!)

Have a look in your descr_strat. Try replacing roman light cavalry with something
else.
writing error fixed.
I'm starting again and I have a CTD but without a message error.
I'm needing help because i'm wanting to release the U:TW

When do you get the CTD/KTM? What do you click on or what screen are you on?

You're going to have to be more specific about what changes you've made. Remarkably few forum members have psychic powers and/or access to your hard drive. Generally though, don't make a lot of changes at once, make small changes and test often so you know when you added the problem, keep backups and if you can't figure out what's wrong revert to the previous version that worked and try it in smaller steps.
I will explain:
I maded many changes in the descr_strat.txt file, I'm adding new troops and unificating nations.
I'm deleting factions and giving a nation the family member of other faction to that factio.
Thats all the changes for my mod

What were the specific changes you made in between the last version you had working and this version which doesn't work?
I deleted all the entries of diplomacy of the destroyed factions, adding troops to the greeks and the romans.Im checking the file again

So when do you get the CTD? The problem may be with adding troops.
I have the CTd when I click the arrow of the right when I selected the faction, works and nothing,a CTD

Could you upload the files somewhere so others can have a look at them? Does the game crash when you reach the end of the loading bar? Have you deleted map.rwm? If not do so. Do you have a map_heights.hgt? If so, delete map_heights.hgt.
you only have 2 solutions:
1. delete map.rtw (if you are lucky - it will be fine:D)
2. you shouldn't make a lot of change. You should make one, two changes and start the game. Then you should save file you are modifing and try to introduce next changes. Unfortunately, from time to time hapens, that the game doesn't wont to read modification file without explicite reason (probably after damaging the data table you can't see in *.txt editor). If it will hapens - you should restore old version of modificated file and try to introduce your modifications again. :wall:
Too late.
i want to upload my mod, but i need contact barroca

Hi Caius,
descr_strat looks like you've done way, way too much too senate family tree.
If you look at normal descr_strat - all members of family in relative section share same surname (if they have one) don't think they can have different ones.... can someone else confirm??
Anyway family structure has to work like
relative Grand Dad (= faction leader - only one), wife, son/daughter 1, s/d 2, s/d 3, s/d 4(4max), end
relative son1/husbandofdaughter 1, wife/daughter1, grandson/daughter 1, gs/gd2, gs/gd3, gs/gd4, end
relative son2...etc
relative grandson 1.... etc
notice all relatives at start of lines below first must have a relationship defined in the lines above.
sons/daughters and grandsons/granddaughters have to be listed in descending order of age and their is a minimum age difference between all sons and fathers etc. possibly 16 for boys and a bit less for girls (not sure exactly what)
You seem to have added a few family trees together so have multiple leaders and heirs and people listed at start of relative lines who have no relationship to anyone in lines above them.
there may be other problems as well but you definitely need to fix this - if you can't get enough armies using possible family members, use generals (captains) instead.
Also there are other problems associated with actually trying to play senate and slave factions.......................EEEEK!!:dizzy2:
EDIT: You've also still got romans_julii in as faction creator in descr_strat - you can't have faction you've 'removed' from descr_strat as faction creator or default faction in descr_regions either.
(most unified Rome mods actually leave Julii in instead of Senate as it avoids hardcoded problems)
Really just go back and do one thing at a time and check each works before proceding. e.g. just take one of the roman factions out, make sure you've got rid of all references to them in regions / strat so it loads. Then try fiddling with family trees etc. (if you're adding new names for a factions generals you also have to make sure they are in that factions section of descr_names.txt - not doing so is a definite no message CTD)
I have various CTD.
One was I clicked a roman member, and CTD!
Retried to open, but The Greek cities are destroyed, but they have settlements at start!
And that was the last time I can opened the Campaign.
Thanks for the help, I'm going to repleace the Roman family tree and try again
Edit:i added all the names to descr_names.txt.
I cant play with any faction!

Re: the old CTD's
One was I clicked a roman member, and CTD!
Thats probably problem with his traits / ancilliaries.
The Greek cities are destroyed, but they have settlements at start!
They'd be destroyed if they didn't have family as well, if you thought they had one, it could be that error in it or the settlement section above is stopping family section being read by game.
Have you actually got back to a working version, before making other changes???
Edit:i added all the names to descr_names.txt.
I cant play with any faction!
I probably wasn't very clear when I mentioned adding names before - to clarify:
When you add a new army (also spies, admirals, relatives etc. - anything with a name) to a faction in descr_strat, check that the name you are using is from that factions section of descr_names.txt (and from right category). It might be simpler for now if you could live with using names that are already in the relevant section.
However..... if you want to use a name that is not in the factions section but is already in that file under another faction section (as in your posted strat I think you were trying to use scipii names for senate faction etc) you can copy name from the other faction and paste it into your factions section. Be careful that you put / use names in right place i.e.
under 'characters' for male first names, 'surnames' for male surnames & 'women' for womens names (first names only). If you've been pasting chunks around make sure you haven't duplicated the section headings (characters, surnames, women) as well. Also when altering things in that file make sure you haven't misspelt or pasted in only part of a name - that would effectively mean you'd added an entirely new name. (Entirely new names have to be added to descr_names_lookup.txt and text/names.txt)
(Entirely new names have to be added to descr_names_lookup.txt and text/names.txt)
I forgotted that.
Ckeching that txt
