I'm unable to load my campaing map, the game crashes when the loading bar finish and I realy don't understand why  .
https://img110.imageshack.us/img110/3760/regionsmapry6.jpg (https://imageshack.us)
The map regions is 184 x 154 y
Even after a look at the CTD guide I'm still unable to fix it.
- Landmass ratio problem causes a CTD when loading the campaign map.I don't think I've too much water
- A named character has an invalid name in descr_strat. I didn't changed any name already
- The game is loaded but the screen is centered onto a buggy region (see the campaign map scrolling CTDs)
Scrolling over campaign map:
- Not enough province/settlements on a too large map (fix : add provinces on the map/may be fixed with BI) causes CTD while scrolling the map. Don't think I have this problem
Scrolling over campaign map:
- Error with the rebel faction/settlement owner and or creator (when you scroll over a given settlement). Does it makes the map impossible to load even if I don't scroll ? Is this related to rebel sub factions leader/units already placed on the map ?
Scrolling over campaign map:
- Some hidden resources can cause CTDs when you scroll over the region.
What ressources ? those of the regions or those placed on the map ? (I deleted the second ones).

I am not the mapping genius of Makanyane, but I have had your problem before.
Do you have a map_heights.hgt in your map folder? That was something to do with my problem I think.

Yes I have it in, I'm doing everything in the "provincial" campaing folder to keep the original clean to test battles.

Hmm. don't believe everything you read, but thanks BE.
I think the problem that BE found was having a map_heights.hgt in the provincial map folder that was either corrupted or just didn't belong with the new map. If you're using 1.5 or 1.6 you don't need one in there - so if its there delete it.
I couldn't find many other possibilities for crash at very end of loading bar (trying to play faction that was dead_until_resurrected was one silly one).
Out of the things you listed its definitely not landmass or invalid names (crash is in wrong place). Regions look well spaced so it shouldn't be anything to do with that (so not too large/ close regions etc)
I don't entirely understand the buggy region bit - CAN ANYONE ELSE EXPLAIN?, but that could be the problem for the end of the loading bar. If you've got more than one playable faction in try loading as a different faction.
If you change anything bare in mind that once you've got as far as the loading bar, it means you've generated a new map.rwm - so you need to delete that again to see effect of changes.
And just in case, the eternal question: have you got ' -show_err' on your shortcut?
If all else fails zip, upload and provide a link to your files (http://www.filehosting.cc/index.php - is one possible place for this, but use your preference) - include the contents of the provincial map folder, the regions_and_settlements file in data/text and state exactly what patch / mod you're working with - and hopefully someone will have a look.

Why do people forget show_err all the time? Isn't there a sticky telling you to activate it to try and get an error message before you post? I am not saying you have not, Neon twilight, but so many do.
And Makanyane, the problem with map_heights was having one, it may not have been clear in my first post though. :2thumbsup:
Something to add to the modder's guide to CTD's?
What do you mean, 'don't believe everything you read'?
What have I believed?

And Makanyane, the problem with map_heights(.hgt) was having one Yeah that was what I was trying to explain incase Nt took it the other way, and yeah add it to guide to CTD's (+ explain which patch/version you were on as some versions did need one re-created for map).

I agree we could definitely do with a sticky on this, with simple instructions for new modders. It has had to be explained many times by many people - but we shouldn't pick on Neon twilight with reference to this as we don't know if he had / hadn't and anyway -show_err is not very good on straight CTD's.
What do you mean, 'don't believe everything you read'?
that was directed at Neon twilight - suggesting he not believe your description of me as a 'mapping genius'! The only reason I can be useful on some of these questions is that I've had most of the crashes first - which is not genius, but rather the opposite!!:embarassed:
And whilst we're off topic, the answer from the other thread (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=68989)(without bumping it)
is that the 'hyena' is an african wild dog (makanyane in the native language)

Problem solved : It was that I've kept some vanilla rebel subfactions leaders and armies without towns of thier subfaction, I just deleted them and all run fine without CTD now. BTW thanks for the help.

How can a non-moderator do a sticky? Perhaps just ask a moderator to do it for them?

I am not directing anything at Neon twilight, sorry if it looks like I was.
How many maps have you made Makanyane? Did you make that map of Britain you emailed me once?

Ah, OK thanks for that. I never knew that.
