My favourite unit from MTW.:2thumbsup:
Looks great indeed and now they seem to be unique to the HRE.

This is frustrating. I always have to wait for a couple of days before I can view the unit.

Cool, they have a lance and a mace (like the cataphracts in Rome) this time around, so they'll have a powerful charge plus their anti-armour capability.

Definitely the baddest (in a good way) unit so far. Though strangely enough I kind of liked the Gothic Knights in MTW (i.e. sans lance). They were slow but when they got there...

Yes! My favorite unit from the original mtw. I love the fact that they have a lance now, assuming they'll be a little bit faster this time around. They are the only reason i ever played as the Italians or HRE.

I miss my 16 Calvary Lancers units, running all in line in the field..
Killing all at his pass.. lol

Cant wait to see a Demo of MTW2

I wonder how they'd do vs. Spanish lancers. They'd probably win in melee but how many would die in the initial charge?

Two badass cav units I hope I never have to fight.

It's HRE only, but presumably the Italians will get their own equivalent. I hope France and England don't lose out again, as in MTW. Full plate was not exclusive to Germany and Italy (even less to Spain).

If you look at the screenshots it appears that most if not all Catholic factions have heavy cavalry encased in plate armour, though this being said I have not seen any English knights of this sort and they are described in sceenshots of the faction selection thing as having weak cavalry.

Looks good. Wouldn't want to have to face a charge of several units of them, though (not without SAP, at least!).

Argh once again England and France seemed to be given the short straw. As Econ posted plate wasn't exclusive to the HRE and so us playing with England will be left with greatly atiquated knights even in the 16th century. Perhaps France and England will get an equivalent but later in the game?
One hope that is the case.

these are only some units CA decided to showcase, making the gothic knight and not other knights mean nothing... has anyone said there wont be any bowmen beside longbowmen since CA only spotlighted the scot's guard?

One of my favourite units from MTW. I wonder what will be the difference between them and the zweihanders? This dismounted ones I mean, if there are any.

@ Vladimir I did so many tests with the original MTW I was obsessed. Among those were Gothic Knights vs. Lancers (my 2 favorite units). Head to head, the Gothic Knights would almost always win. From what I gathered, Gothic Knights could beat virtually any other calvary unit, but the Lancers fared better against anything on foot. Historically, I have no idea if this is correct, but this was how it played out in the original game.

The MTW version of Gothic foot knights were fully armoured fellows weilding enormous 2-handed swords that were armour piercing. My guess is that in MTW2 Gothic foot knights will be their own unit, but that they'll use the same model & skin as zweihanders.

I think they have talked about England having a somewhat weak (comparatively) mounted knight force, but that their dismounted knights were very good.

The French will probably get something somewhat equivalent, perhaps something not so heavily armored but with a more powerful charge or better defensive skill.

I saw this somewhere else on the boards...

It is possible that the English and French knights do not get a specific unit like the HRE but armour upgrades (which are also reflected in the game) will solve this issue...

...just a thought.

Maybe, but armour upgrades would not level the playing field unless they prohibit some units (e.g. Gothic knights) from getting them. Also upgraded Anglo-French chivalric knights will probably lack the AP secondary weapon and fully barded horse. I think it would be better to allow the Germans and Italians to get Gothic knights earlier/cheaper/with higher experience rather than give them a monopoly per se.

Actually, I can live with it for England - especially if they get plate armoured foot knights. England did tend to use fewer mounted knights, prefering to dismount them. Denying them mounted Gothic knights in MTW, but allowing them to use (small) units of Royal knights was a reasonable way of modelling that (the late era Royal Knights were basically lancers - full plate + fully barded horse). But the absence of full plate armoured knights was unfair to the French - the gendarmes did not compensate.

I think now that the HRE is one of the most powerful nation in mtw2>They have this gothic knights that kill everything in their way.And the zweihanders too.

Hi Econ,

I just saw the English start screen in the "Loads of new pics!" thread. It mentions the strengths and weakness of the English;

The strengths were Longbowmen and Strong Infantry while the weakness was a small selection of cavalry.

maybe this leans towards your concern about Gothic's being a monopoly and at least the English having very few Cavalry option, especially later in the game.

not to direspect the gothic knights but i think a good unit of english billmen should take care of alot as long as they not the ones getting charged into so i would slow them down with a throwaway unit
