BELGIAN police claimed yesterday to have foiled a neo-Nazi terrorist plot after arresting 11 soldiers and seizing a large quantity of weapons during raids on five army barracks.

Getting past my initial shock when I realized that Belgium had a military I was further surprised to see that there are so many neo-nutheads in it. FIVE barracks?! That's got to be, like, half of the standing army!

Joking aside, I just thought some of our cooler Belgian members (but aren't they all, especially the brewers :barrel: ) might add some light to this.

The belgian military is great ! About half of our troops are overweight and when the Iraq war started the military leadership said they didn't think they could motivate the troops to go fight there :laugh4:

About the group: there was apparently an article about them in one of our more popular magazines more then three years ago. Elections (for city officials) are in october, the right wingers (with some links to neo-nazi's) stand to win ground yet again. This might be an election stunt.

You do know Belgian "para's" get a better training than for example America. Belgian soldiers aren't bad they just lack good gear (most of it is really old), numbers,...

EDit: Btw, it weren't that many, 10 or something just spread out in different barracks. Tough what is really embarrasing (except for my spelling) is the fact that 'the leader' has comitted a serious crime (burning his school as a kid) and got excepted in to the army and everything. The only army he should get in to would be the French Foreign Legion, IMO.

I disagree. The army is a decent place to teach people to follow orders. The typicl smart alec reply of "yeah, or what?" Can be replied with "The enemy will shoot you". I'd rather they were a long way away fighting with terrorists than resiging in my home country.

I suppose 10 people isn't bad, it's just bad that they had to raid the barracks. Most cases in the U.S Army soldiers are just told to show up at a certain building at a certain time (the rather nondescript Criminal Investigation Division building) or escorted by their chain of command to the same building.

The article makes it appear that these barracks doubled as bases for these nuts.
