Help! MTW Crashes . . .

I've had MTW for a couple of years and played it without incident on my old computer. Then my old computer died and I got a new computer. I even invested in a new monitor, a ViewSonic VA191wb (which means widescreen). Beautiful. I can play RTW like no one's buisness.

But now I can't play MTW. Here's what happens.

The battle screens, when I'm fighting other factions, works fine. It's the campaign map---or strategy map---that crashes to desk top when:

(1) I try to set the in-game resolution fro anything higher than 1024x768; or

(2) I try to load any save game at any resolution.

Also, of course, the aspect ratio is skewed. I searched the web and these forums and cannot find a way to change the settings to all for a 16:10 (1400x900) setting.

Here's my info:

Graphics Card: ATI Raedon X1300pro
Graphics Memory: 256mb
OS: Windows XP
RAM: 1 gig

This game should run like a dream on this computer. Please help me: I love this game and it frustrates me that I cannot play it.

A lot of people have had difficulties running MTW when new graphic cards and/or video drivers are involved (including yours truly!). I'm not technically-inclined myself, but you can check out this thread (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=68157) for some possible solutions. You might also want to visit the Apothecary (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=15), where there are numerous threads devoted the issue as well. Good luck!
