I know a pirate. I have spoken with a pirate. You, sir, are no pirate.

I'm serious about knowing a pirate; he's an old Englishman from Portsmouth, and my father is pretty sure he used to be a small-time smuggler. However, he also spent a lot of time sailing around New Your in a wooden sailing ship, firing off broadsides at one in the morning in order to set off the car alarms. He can also drink an impressive amount of beer (although he is about six and a half feet tall.)

But he does not talk like that. :no:

Smuggler != Pirate.

Smugglers, for some odd reason, sound like senior Massachusetts senators.

A significant number of British are smugglers, making the trip between Dover and Calais, buying booze and fags in Calais without paying UK retail tax and carrying them back on the ferry. An industry has even evolved in those two towns to cater for these day trips.
