Sounds like he's lucky to be alive...

He said: "We were down there with Top Gear who were filming him trying to break the British land speed record.

"On the previous run, the car had just gone over 300mph but I am not sure if it had broken the record.

"They had just done one more run and were planning to finish when it veered off to the right.

"One of the parachutes had deployed but it went on to the grass and spun over and over before coming to a rest about 100 yards from us."

He said his crew and an ambulance that was already on the airfield rushed over and found the car upside down and "dug in" to the grass.

Let's hope he has a full recovery. He was by far the better of the two hosts on Time Commanders.

Let's hope he gets better very soon. I do enjoy Top Gear very much. I think the programme has become so much better with the three of them.

Hopefully he will recover quickly as the hamster is the best presenter of the three (allthough clarkson has his moments)

The family are refusing to send out any details other than that his condition is serious but stable. Pessimistically, that could mean he's suffered major injuries. The fact that he's in a hospital that specialises in head injuries is, well...

I hope the Hamster's injuries aren't permanent, though I do prfer Jeremy Clarkson when it comes ot Top Gear hosts.

Jeremy clarkson is the best individual presenter, but they work best as a team overall anyway... best of luck for his recovery

I talked with my dad about this earlier before he went to the airport (bound for the US). Most sad. As he said to me though, presuming that Hammond continues to improve he won't be too deep in it. Even if his time as a television presenter gets cut short, he'll still have his journalism career, and failing that his name to fall back on.

Gah. I remember seeing it on the news before any details were released. They just mentioned that he'd been in accident while filming and showed us a few pictures of the scene.. a few cars and a big pile of dirt. Didn't know what I was looking at until I heard that the jet-car had burried itself into the ground. :dizzy2:
