Is there anyway to increase it ?

basically the game crashes every time I enter the throne room, which probably isn't so bad, but now the game crashed after fighting two rather important battles (I killed a daymio damnit !) getting two generals promoted and getting a legendary swordsman :furious3: :furious3: :furious3:

I'd like to avoid such things in the future, so has anyone figured out how to make this game work better under XP ?

Hmmm... have you tried updating your drivers (both graphic and audio)? This might solve the problem. Also, installing the latest patch would be a good idea too (but I think you've just done it, so try with the drivers).

It doesn't seem to work, it keeps saying something about a debugger...:help:

The fact that it crashed in the throne room and at the legendary swordsman event points to the in game videos being the problem. Go into the options and disable all of the videos and the throne room. If you still have crashes then you'll know that the videos aren't causing it. If it's ok, then it's bound to be a codec issue, possibly related to Windows Media Player. Personally I've only ever had a problem with the throne room advisor crashing in the past, not the other videos, and now even that doesn't crash. This was after reinstalling XP, which does indicate that it's something else that I'd updated or installed that caused this. I know that my WMP is only at version 9 and that I get no problems running shogun. Neither have I downloaded any codecs as I don't use WMP much anyway. There is also an issue with Nero Burning Rom 6 causing a crash related to the Winice/Softice debugger being detected (doesn't seem to be your problem). This is something to do with the DivX codec used internally in Nero. I have Nero 6 installed and don't have this problem either.

I had this issue in XP as well but after searching for suggested solutions, I downloaded WMP Classic and its corresponding codec pack and set that as my default player for .wmv files. Everything worked fine after that, except for a CTD if I brought up a unit's statistics when I also had the training screen up... but that's not a video problem (and isn't a problem as long as remember not to do it).
