Hi !

I´ve played Shogun and MTW for ages now, just love the games. Resently I bought the VI exp. box and suddenly MTW turns into a whole new game, especialy when looking at eastern europe, new spear units, new byz. cav.
But most of all new Heavy Cav.

in old MTW i usually send an early crusade to take kiev and/or Khazar, as they have great trade potential.
The first time I tried that in MTW+VI I got my Ass served to me by Khazar Royal Cav.....

Which brings me to my question, what faction do you have to play and what buildings do you need to produce Royal Khazar Cav ???

I don't think you can build KRC, they are rebel only units. You can always mod the game so you can play as Khazar.

You cannot. The only Royal Khazar units in the game are the ones present at the start in Khazaria.

Welcome to the Org, BTW ~ .

Bummer....

OK, I´ll have to settle for the Steppe Heavy Cav.
pricy unit, but low on maintenance and quite deadly....

btw. do anybody know why you can´t play as the russians in early campaigns?
Dismounted Druzinya cav => foot knights => terror on the battlefield

Even the heavy byz inf. have to yield these guys.

I´m curently playing a game as the Italians, and have 4 units of merc. Druz. cav. + af few units of int. light inf. this combo is plain murder.....

IIRC, wizard, playing as the Russians in early (or People of Novgorod, as they're called) should be very easy to fix. You would simply need to go into the startpos file and find the list of Major/Minor factions. Novgorod should be listed as minor; change them to Major and you're done. I don't see why this shouldn't work, but I'm contemplating getting back into MTW modding after a long absence, so maybe I'm forgetting something. Do back up those files if you start messing with 'em.

I believe both BKB and XL mods have KRC available. In fact, BKB mod has the Khazar Khaganate as a faction. :2thumbsup:

You can always try to bribe the Khazar Royal Cav unit with an emissary. But equally as good as Kaz Royal Cav, are Avar Nobles, which you *can* build in nearby Moldova. In fact Avar Nobles have one point higher defence and two points more armour, though slightly lower morale. They are only available in the Early period, so if you want to build them, you need to move fast to secure Moldova. Then you'll need to get an armourer and a horse breeder built.

But, if you're a western civilization, those are much lower requirements than those required for Feudal Knights, and they are about as good as FK's. For half the maintenance costs.

Just a few Avar Nobles early in the game can make a huge difference in your battles in the regions around Moldova.

Khazar Royal Cavalry is not worth the trouble to get unless you have some cash and need some mid-class cavalry to help hold a border that probably won't see much action. Of course, with the Mongols approaching, this is simply not the case.

Avar Nobles are a wild card. My suggestion is that if you went through the trouble of getting them, you should absolutely use them to knock out or neutralize a potential threat, if only to justify their cost.

Thanks for all your advice !

I have now started a new campaign, and as of 1105 my crusaders now hold Moldova. Now we just have to build....

1 year watchtowers
1 year border forts
4 years fort
2 years town watch
2 years spearmaker
2 years 20% fields
2 years horse breeder
8 years keep
4 years armourer
4 years trainer

just 30 years untill i get Avar Nobles !

Do you not also have to mod the game to attach Khazar Royal Cavalry to the Khazar faction that you've made?
How would I go about doing this - making them into the Bodyguard unit for my princes/kings etc? I know how to make Khazar into a faction, but how do I give them this unit?
