That's why you try to stay out of the trees!!!:laugh4:

Seriously, though the trees are, I think, unrealisticaly big, it really was historically inadvisable to try fighting in the forests as it was difficult to issue commands, easy to get lost, etc...

So, in a way, its accurate. And as a good general you should know to stick to the plains, roads, and clearings. (Each forest map has at least a couple of clearings usually, and its even beter if there is a road.)

well, there goed the realism, because the ai obviously had no problem issuing commands.

I think the trees make it more realistic, but the big, huge pine trees are unrealistically big. They are like the size of redwood trees, and RTW takes place in eurasia, not california.

There is a realystic tree size mod. I`m unable to find it though.

Hope you can.

I stay out of trees. I stage battlefield ambushes by rushing hidden troops out of trees. And I use missle troops that can hide in long grass.

But I stay out of the trees...

the mod about realistic tree height is called relistic trees, and can be found in RTR forums, as well as some mods around here...like spqr...there is a second mod that includes the realistic trees, and adds to the experience by modding vegetation such as stones and bushes...it's called realistic landscapes..and is available at TWC...there is also the trees from Blue Lotus and NTW2, that make it possible to have a nice battle inside forests...see my screens at the EB screenshot thread(They start at page6) to see some of this trees in action with EB...i don't run away from fights in forests...i love them...your field of view is limited by the forest ceiling, and the tree trunks are nice and realistic obstacles to your FOV..., the trees, in Blue Lotus have a reasonable diameter, so no more units getting stuck between trees...search the EB Screens to see what i mean...

If someone wanted to work with us to make more realistic trees for EB, and they had proof that they could do it, we'd be happy to. But we won't just use another mod's trees when that mod has yet to release them.

i don't know you should talk to Teleklos... Edit...looks like he beated me, and got here first...
this mods, you can implement yourself into your current EB install...it's quite easy..just follow the instructions...
for the Blue Lotus trees, and the NTW2 vegetation, knowledge on how to edit the .txt files of the game, would be needed...but it's not too dificult, and is quite possible for a noob to mod them into their EB install(there are quite a few helpful tutorials in the Scriptorium area, for this things, wich are extremely helpful to noobs at modding)...that's what i did...my start at modding, was adding this trees to my EB install...since then, i've edited, stats, regions, resources, added new units, with new entries on rebels, mercs, restricted recruitment.... skinned a bit, and today im still a noob, but a noob who knows more or less where he should go to make things his way=).... now thinking about going to learn a bit of Moddeling and maybe make some fancy tree models for EB(if they acept them in case i suceed in my learning)...RTW still has quite a few things to wich he can expand before ppl move out into MTW2...who I guess, won't be as moddable as ppl want to assume...seen already quite a few games highly moddable, highly popular, give rise to sequels, much less moddable, and therefore much too less popular...

and i have a gut feeling that all those fancy graphics will take their toll on someother highly anticipated features of the game...normally nice graphsm and good gameplay, as well as depth of gaming and moddability, don't mix very well...

MISTAKE!!!!

Use the Trees!!!! Especially if you are a Barbarian!

Sure its hard to controll. But that is why there is a PAUSE button. :2thumbsup:
Hey I beat the Romani fighting most of the battles in the trees. H/H. It takes a little more effort, but you will love the Bonus Pts your units get.

The AI is severely disadvantaged everywhere else, may as well let it have its time in the sun in forest battles...

The trees aren't that unrealistic, every forest any of you have ever seen (lest you live in northern siberia or the deep amazon) is a young forest.

But I hate the stupid forest battles too. Shouldn't the forests me nearly nontransversable? For example, when the Roman legions in britain defeated the armies of Boudica, they chose a narrow battlefield with forests on either side because of the briton numbers and so they wouldn't be flanked. Or much later, a small grove of trees on either side of the battle of Agincourt prevented the French from exploiting their numberical advantage. In rtw the only disadvantages forests have is bad visiblility (for humans), and formation distortion. Should it not be more dificult to move and fight in forests?

My only problem with forests is that right now I am doing a Sweboz campaign and my computer crashes in battles with large numbers of forests because I don't think it is capable handling so many objects.

Only three more months until I build my new computer... only three.

Then my friend I would suggest u use another faction unitl u get ur new PC, because sweboz, aedui, arverni, and iberia are in heavily wooded areas, (especially sweboz).
