Hi.

I'm having difficulties with this game now. I'm still playing romans, the time is around 190BC and my conquest is pretty accurate to the real history. But my problem is, that any surrounding nation has declared war against me. both gaul tribes, the german tribe, the epiros&macedonians, the iberians and the people from karthago. As you can guess, this is pretty hardcore to fight of, because of the multiple frontlines. So I'm trying to solve this by diplomacy.

But the problem is, that I have to give them money to make peace with me. And then, next round, they attack me again.
So my question is, what can I do, to get some factions agreeing to long peace terms. Is there any way to force them to peace ingame or even by an editing program? Because I don't want to fight the whole world at the same time.

Thanks...

This is a RTW problem. It seems whenever you share a border with the AI, it will attack you, even if you're both in an alliance with trade.

RTW's rate of battle is appauling. Instead of fighitng larger battles infrequently, you fight smaller ones all the time.

I hope MT2 will differ from this scenario. I'm so sick of 2-5 unit armies laying siege on my cities while i'm fighting a different faction 5 provinces away with the bulk of my war machine.

The name of the game is TOTAL WAR. So I guess we can't hold it against them, but still, I'd rather fight less battles with larger armies attacking me. Each battle is worth more in terms of strategy and you don't get terrorized by little throw away armies which only server to piss you off.

This might have something to do with the save/load bug. Every time you quit and reload a game, the AI completely forgets its strategy and makes a new on for the campaign. This is why factions attack each other and you pretty much at random. It simply can't remember who it's allied with etc. In 1.5 this bug is fixed so the AI should (hopefully) make more sense in who it attacks. I'm playing EB with a downgraded 1.5 install and I can tell you the 1.51/6 AI is better at not starting wars all the time. :2thumbsup:

sadly the AI is still retarded, I hope you don't like to haggle because the AI will just refuse to talk to you if it doesn't like your first preposal "Bandering words with you is just a pointless distraction..." every time.:wall:

I had an idea about the problem. Would it help to make a peace-term the opposite faction would agree to, just that i'll send regular tribute instead for some turns? In hope that the AI would know that it wont get any money if they declare war again?

Yeah. This is a point that is really anoying. In history there were fewer battles after peace negotiantions were normal, like in the first macedonian war. Instead of 3 (or some smaller) macedonian wars i will have one huge macedonian war which lasts for over 20 years. And that's not so good imho. :(
