50-100 turns into the game and the bruti senators hate me (the juli) while the bruti people love me. Why is this? I've noticed that keeping an army lounging around in other roman factions territory doesn't help your standing with their senators but I haven't had any army near them for awhile and they are hating on me. But their people love me.

Is there a reason or is the senate floor pretty much random?

Start the civil war and kill all those that hate you. Problem solved. :2thumbsup:

There aren't bruti senators or people - there are just the Roman Senate and the Roman people. IIRC, the Senate likes you as you fulfill more missions, but eventually starts to dislike you as you conquer more and more land. The Roman people just like you as you conquer more and more land. It's not at all random.

When you get the message about a "chance for power" you can start a civil war. If you don't, eventually, the Senate will ask your leader to commit suicide, kind of forcing the issue.

That, however, might take a while. In all my Roman games I´ve tried to get to that point, I´ve never reached it (on all difficulties from medium upwards, mind you) - senate popularity just doesn´t want to drop below three pips for me.

After thinking about, I realized how dumb the question was. The faction icons in the senate floor scroll represent the senate/peoples support of the factions. For some reason I was thinking the icons represented the factions in the senate/people. duh. Anyways, bruti being popular amongst the people and not at all popular in the senate seems like a bad thing.

at the beginning being popular with the senate (by completing senate missions quickly) is a good thing as they will shower you with gifts of money and troops. Later when you start becoming powerfull they will start to get jealousof your power and your standing with them will drop. This should co-incide with an increase inpopularity with the people as you should be conquering more and more. Once you get to 80% popularity (8 pips) you will get the chance for power message and you can start the civil war- the best part of the roman campaign.

I've just started playing RTW recently (was playing BI beforehand) the bars on the senate column graph seem to be 65%-70% full yet the description says "and handful of senators recognise your greatness but most ignore your infulence" or somesuch. While the people are quite low - about 30%. The bars are generally the same for all factions.

Can someone explain what's up with this?

Your proably still in the early game.

More conquering = senate dislikes you, people like you
Less conquering = senate likes you, people dislike you

Senate like you to obey missions. The only way to win is to eventually have the senate hate you and have the people love you, so conquer, conquer, conquer until the people love you enough for you to march on Rome.

Well after two more senate missions, blockading of SPQR enemies ports and barbarian conquering my appeal with both went up, then I stopped blockading the port to attack their fleet and my appeal with both went back down again next turn.

You will always tread a fine line between the senate and the people, but if you can try and keep them both happy while you go about your business you will get better rewards than if you upset them. But don't worry if you start getting drops in senate popularity once your province count goes over 25. that just means they are starting to fear your power- and once you break 30 ish you should get a chance for power!

My first real campaign so far....I am up around 25 provinces. The Senate loves me. The people seem indifferent. I try to do most senate missions as long as they don't involve declaring war on a faction I am trying to keep peace with. They do get ignored occasionaly but it doesn't seem to make any difference.
