View Full Version : Strange FPS drop and "lagg"?
Hi guys.
Played EB today and after a 1 hour session the game suddenly slowed down. Even though it has nothing to do with internet, I would best describe the game as becoming "laggy". The screen skips and everything is happening very slowly.
I tried saving and reloading, and everything is fine until I press the "Background Script" button, which immediately reverts the game to the stone age in terms of playability.
It has worked fine the last 12 or so months. This did not happen gradually but after an ended turn.
Anyone else experiencing this? Would be very grateful for your help.
Pius.

EB is on 1.2 and 1.5 is faster than 1.2.

That sounds like a memory leak to me. This might be due to EB, Rome or just some external application that is running on the background.
Does it get laggy if you start a new game and activate the background script? If it does, memory leak might be in RTW, or EB background script.
If it gets laggy when you load your game and activate the script there is probably something messed up in the EB script which is taking an awful lot of cpu or memory to handle.
It might be smart to check out your windows background applications. Just press ctrl+alt+del if you are running on windows xp or 2000 and see if some process is honking all your cpu or memory. If the memory and cpu is used by RTW, we know the problem lies inside the game.
The game runs smoothly until I activate the Background Script. When I press the button, the game slows down and starts to skip i.e. the screen jumps when I'm sidescrolling and so on. Everything points at the problem lying in the script.
Strangely enough, when I check my "activity manager" (??) (ctrl+alt+del) and look at the processes, RTW uses 00 CPU while the "System Waiting Process" (Again, I'm on a Swedish version of XP and can't recall the english names for these things). The System WAiting Process is the process at the very bottom of the list.
Edit: I tried to start a new Campaign game as Karthadastim, and when I activated the script there was no problem. Could it be that my Ptolemaic empire is too big for the script to handle? Either way, the "lagg" I experienced seems to only affect my previous, main campaign. Strange indeed.

I find after playing any mod for an extended period of time, the game just continually slows down. Saving, exiting and doing something else for a short time to clear RTW out of the RAM before reloading usually does the trick. Because it is done so infrequently the save/load bug doesn't really have much effect, either.

That sounds alot like an old 1.2 bug. It's a weird little one has to due with the campaign map figures just looping through their actions over and over. If it is this bug after you start the script, find an agent, select them and just move them a couple tiles. Should clear it right up after they move.

The infamous 246BC Apocalypse Bug creates extreme lag behaviour, but it was only a problem in 0.72 and you haven't at least mentioned any year skipping or anything like that. Is it a specific campaign where this happens?
