What effect does the Emperor have if any?

I don't know of any. Possibly something to do with alliances?

The best guess I've been able to make is that perhaps the Emperor gives a hidden influence bonus to whichever faction he last supported, and that this bonus affects who remains allied with clans that have started warring with each other. I have asbolutely no proof of this, however. It's only a loose theory on my part.

Sounds plausible to me Martok, it's the only effect I've been able to think of. I wonder if gaining the Imperial mandate results in a temporary rise in province loyalty for the receiving daimyo, or a slight drop for all the other daimyos, who have presumably now been effectively declared rebels against the Imperial mandate?
Of course, there might be no effect other than game 'flavour', the Emperor during the SJ period was generally pretty irrelevant anyway!

I don't know, matteus. I would actually say a rise in loyalty makes more sense than my idea. (It would certainly be easier to code, at any rate.) That's just my opinion, though.

Makes sense to me dude.
Anyone ever managed to get the Imperial mandate while playing as a Catholic daimyo? I'm sure you can, but it would be quite amusing anyway. :laugh4:

Heh. That would be pretty amusing. ~;p

Out of curiosity, has anyone ever received a message that their own clan has received the Emperor's support? I ask because I'm honestly not sure if I ever have; the message always seems to say he supports one of the other clans.

"Out of curiosity, has anyone ever received a message that their own clan has received the Emperor's support? "

Yes, at least a dozen times. It occurs when you conquer Yamashiro. ~;) (That goes for AI Clans as well, conquering Yamashiro)

I was a Chrisitian Shimizu and I'm pretty sure I got it. I think you have to capture the province where he is at although I forget where exact;y that is. Somewhere right next to Oda lands I think. Thats why Oda gets it first most of the time i think.

He's right you know.

AFAIK the Emperor "in Kyoto" has no effect at all, expect that his province produces troops of +1 honour. It may work as Martok describes which seems very plausible but I've not seen evidence of this. :2cents:

You know, for as long as I've played this game, I honestly don't think I've ever noticed that before (that the Emperor supports whichever clan has conquered Yamashiro). (It would explain why the Mori and Oda clans get his support so often, however. ~ ) Thanks guys!

Indeed. Accept for that it's the best region to train any troops, there's no advantage of conquering it. (That's quite nice already though ~;)) I don't think there's such effect as Martok described. As it would've been found out before there was.

Once I have it, I have a regular little conveyor belt of units going through for retraining (especially all the ones I've bribed to join me by the time I've grabbed that province)... then off to one of my armoury/weaponsmith combos for outfitting. Then, off we go to hit things... :viking:

To be honest, that was my feeling as well. I just couldn't think of another explanation for the event (Emperor throwing his support to a particular plan), however, so I went with the best guess my addled brain could conjure up. ~
