View Full Version : City Occupation CTD

I'm having a problem with a CTD that I have not been able to resolve. I have not come across it before and thought someone out there might be able to shed some light on the matter...

It occurred when an AI faction took control of a specific city. The CTD occurs when pressing the end-turn button at the end of that turn in which the city was taken.

It is not:

* character related (there are no characters present)
* recruitment related (only emissaries are available)
* building-construction related (all buildings take 2 or more turns to build)
* building-destruction-related (AI does not destroy - or cannot destroy in some cases- the buildings present)
* revolt related (revolts usually do not occur on the turn you take a city, which state I have tested)

What is left? I cannot duplicate the CTD playing as the former ai faction. I have the CTD turn saved for comparison but cannot work out what the difference it.

What could the AI be doing that I am not?

(and I have tested bribing the settlement back to my original faction and this causes no CTD when the end-turn button is pressed, so it is related to the occupation of that city).

Ideas anyone?

Probably can't help on this but in attempt to clarify exactly how this occurs...

Do you mean AI took control of city in previous AI turn, you then had your turn and then crash happened when you hit turn button, if so did AI take city from another AI faction or from you?
Or did you initiate battle to relieve seige within your go and lose city, then crash on end of turn? Not sure why either of those would have apparent 'delayed' effect - have had CTD's directly on occupation and on army unable to find retreat path, but not on next turn button.

If when you're duplicating CTD, you're still same faction in same year, could there be anything to do with that - and city occupation co-incidental?

What factions are involved, and do they have any shadowing / hording effects active?

Does mod have script? Anything to do with hidden resource / triggers for region?

I will clarify and have complete confidence you will do no worse than me ;)

The AI took control of it in the AI turn (obviously) and then the game came back to my control. Then, as I click the end-turn button the game immediately CTDs. The AI took the city from the player faction.

No, I bribed the city back to my control and no CTD. It then retook it (it was empty) and the CTD occured again (obviously not the same turn).

No hording or shadowing/shadowed by is active for these 2 factions.

No scripts. HRs and triggers have not been changed for a long time. This is a recent problem and I can only think that buildings and building descriptions and the DS file have been altered but as I said before it cannot be building related as the buildings all require 2 turns or more to build; and I have tested them all anyway.

I may have to play it through again and wait for it to reappear as I cannot work out what is wrong. If it occurs under different circumstances then I may be able to get some more clues.

Thx. for your interest - you're doing a fine job answering questions but I hope it is not taking you away from your own modding too much :)

You ruled out all the possibilities I was thinking of but something else just occurred to me:

What could the AI be doing that I am not?
how about auto-managing the city? Did you try that while you occupied the city, as either faction? Just wondering if it could have acquired a loop in the decision making process somehow......

I tested a new game and it does not seem to be repeating itself. It must have been an anomaly or something that has been indirectly eradicated with further coding.

Yep, I tried auto to see what was being built.

Thx. for your thoughts.
