View Full Version : i'm slightly overwhelmed - help
hi, i'm a new RTW fan
i was wondering if you can help me a bit as i'm overwhelmed by the amount of infomation and number of files that i can fnd here
currently, i'm running RTW1.5+BI1.6 and i laso installed the BUG-FIXER3.36
1. are there any other unofficial patches that are worth installing?
2. could you perhaps suggest one or two well-made historical modifications worth installing for those special days when i finally get bored with the CD campaigns
also
3. how many units can get onto a ship - bireme (by units i mean e.g. town watch, hastati, hastati, veltes, etc), does it depends on the type of units e.g. more hastati units, but less cavalry, or are they all treated in the same way)

Hello,
to answer your questions one by one
are there any other unofficial patches that are worth installing?
Other than Player1's Bugfixer mod I know of no other un official patch, don't worry though - his mod does a great job in getting rid of the most irritating ones.

Two great ones are Rome Total Realism (RTR) and Europa barbarorum (EB)
I'm having trouble finding the RTR website (as their domain changed a couple of times over the last 6 months or so). However, I'm currently using it (and some other mini mods with it) in a PBM, check it out here in the Throne Room. (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=69050) The Play By Mailis proving to be loads of fun, definately check it out - and the mod itself of course!
Another great one is Europa barbarorum (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=70), the link is to their page here at the Org. their stickies should contain most if not all of the information you'd want.

Rome Total War doesn't have a maximum amount of soldier per boat. You could ship an entire stack of units with just one ti/bireme.
Hope that Helped.

I know of another good RTW mod. It's called Terrae Expugnandae and can be found here (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=114), It's worth a download.
thanks, one more question - are sea battles always resolved automatically? i was about to start one but i couldn't control my ships, a screen appeared showing the balance of forces and i could only press a button on the right which said something like 'automatic..."
Yes, sea battles are automatically calculated.
For the BI campaign, I recommend Goth's All Factions mod as a historical mod. IBFD also looks very nice.
i read somewhere that if the fleet has a commander then it performs better, especially if he has relevant traits - is it true?
if so, are these have to be special 'naval' traits? or are e.g. 'confident attacker' or 'natural borm general' enough?

Admirals get command stars like family members do, to a maximum of four or five. However, they cannot be adopted into your family like army captains, and family members cannot become admirals. If you load a family member on board of a ship, they just count as cargo.
As for unofficial patches, I would recommend that you install a formations mod. These are very small files that do not change the appearance of the game, but they make the A.I. act more cleverly on the battlefield. Currently, the most popular formation mod is Darth Formations but I've heard that Sinuhet's new formations set is even better. You can find Darth Formations 16.0 here (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=62465), and Sinuhet's formation 7.0 for R:TW and 1.0 for BI over here (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=130).
Welcome to the Org, BTW ~ .
thanks, do these formation mods require starting a new campaign or is it possible to continue the old one?

They'll work fine with your old campaign.
ok, and what does 'vanilla' mean in the context of mods - the original unmodded game?

Hopefully your Admirals won't get the trait of seasick as once did. And yes Vanilla means ummodded RTW.

Yes, vanilla is the game you buy - unmodded.
