How, exactly, does the general's unit rally routing troops? I know it's an F-key command, but does the general's unit actually have to be near the routing unit, and, if so, what exactly is the "effective radius" within which it will take effect? I've tried using it in a couple of battles, but it hasn't appeared to have any noticeable effects on my routing troops.
I guess what I'm trying to ask is, what's the most effective way to rally fleeing troops?
Usually, by the time they are fleeing, it wont make much difference. the only time I saw it happen is with the spartans. When you can use it right behind the unit as they are fighting or if you are fighting next to them. If you use it then, they will be less likely to flee and have more resolve for the rest of the fight. I don't know about the radius, but if you have the camera restricted, it is probably as far as the camera can go.

I have actually never successfully rallied my troops, I think they have to be far way from any other enemies for it to work. My advice is to not let your troops to rout in the first place, by keeping your general close to keep their morale up.

weird, it works every single time for me. The rallied units might be fairly far away but they stop routing and will come back and fight if so commanded.

Personally I find the 'Rally Troops' ( I dont know about an F command, I just use the little horn pic in the lower right corner ) only works if your unit is getting its arse kicked, and starts flashing; it can hold that unit together long enough to get another unit into that fight so you can withdraw the bashed unit in good form.
Once they start running its all over. :furious3:

Although it doesn't work every time for me, I can often (75%+/-) stop routing troops using the rally command too.
Best thing though is to not get them in a situation where they are likely to flee in the first place.~D

True, but sometimes it's unavoidable ~;)
Anyway, thanks all for the advice ~:)

its working fine for me i use it all the time if i didnt i think i will get slaughtered:skull:
I´ve noticed that rallying isn´t as effective in RTW as it is in MTW. In MTW I had more than once turned the tide by rallying my fleeing army (and I´ve got my own back whipped by rallied enemies, too, me being way too rash), but that´s hardly ever happened in RTW.
