A legal demo download is out on fileplanet.com. :2thumbsup:
Still not free, a subscription is required, but after $7 and five minutes filling out little text blocks I'm downloading it right now.

Pah! $7, thats criminal for something which I believe is freeware.
Why has there been no comment by CA about this? Because over at the terrible .com its getting very dodgy.

Zimfan40
10-10-2006, 05:58
Well, the seven bucks is for a subscription to fileplanet, a site with reviews, early downloads of demos, etc. not for that individual demo. Rather like getting it with a subscription to PCGamer. If you want to know why they're selling demo rights to companies that charge, I imagine you'd have to ask the Sega marketing people, not the CA staff.

Not that Sega's marketing people would answer that question, because it's simply a way for them to increase their revenue stream while appearing to support the community...

I suppose you could be rigt. But why would SEGA a proud supporter of the TW community do such a thing? It cannot be!

This is only a question of planning decisions in SEGA marketing ... this week you will get the demo on .com too - for free ;) And always in the game industry on such strange ocasions the community does not count because they buy the game anyway.

There's a list of several servers. Some of them need subscription, others are free.

I didn't hold much hope anyway. The demo released on saturday was just illegally distributed not an early version of the demo. It will be the same for the main release despite what CA will say. Many athlon owners like myself are screwed as it will set us back a hefty price just to play the sodding game:juggle2:

Thanks for the link Oguz_Yabgu

At 0400 California time, the California server was already maxxed out; had to go to the Australian mirror. Estimated d/l time (broadband cable here) 1 hour, 54 minutes. :sigh:

Thanks, Oz! :)

Anyone has an idea about SSE2 stuff? It would be weird that those major gaming websites would be publishing illegal demos on their websites. So that can we expect that CA provided a SSE-friendly revised demo ?

Based on the brief description at that 3D gamers link, they've got exactly the same demo that PC Gamer released last week (tutorial, Agincourt and Pavia), so I wouldn't expect there to be any difference between the two.

Maybe PC Gamer's "exclusive" was getting it out before the weekend?

Thanks anyway, fruitfly. You have saved me a lot of time. I was at %10 of the download, I'll be cancelling it right away.

Success. 1 hour, 58 minutes. Oh well, that gave me time to catch up with Eleanor & Co in the Mead Hall.

Installed quickly. The ReadMe still refers to an SSE2 requirement.

Everyone should have a Fileplanet subscription, it costs next to nothing and you get access to loads. I get the Founders Club thingy for $19.95 a quarter so I never notice the money going ~:)

fair enough... mwy mwy

btw if any of you have any doubts about... you know the fact that you cant upgrade missile on the archers, dont worry, theyve improved it so 8 can cause a ok amount of damage to inf and good damage to lightly upgwaded archers.

You don't have a chip that has the SSE2 Instruction set - look at the thread that is called something like "The Would MY PC Be Able to Run M2TW thread?"

Well, I come from a part in Eastern Europe where most mainstream PC games are available in localized version (legal) for some 15 bucks, 1 mbit/s internet costs 11 bucks per month. These are the prices I would have to consider if I ever needed "reviews, early downloads of demos" provided by
Fileplanet for 7. But I don't.
