Will the full game require SSE2?Will there be a way to play the demo without SSE2 or maybe there is an emulator?

Yes. (full game)

Check the thread about running the demo for more info on which set ups can run it.

SSE2 is only required for the demo :)

"Most of the issues with the Athlon XP processor were fixed for the release version of the game, the single player game works fine but there are a few residual issues with multiplayer and as such we can't officially support it." - Jason
Does not sound very good to me. Is MTW II going to be so stunning as to make so many people buy it plus a huge PC upgrade?
Will a patch be released to clear up these 'residual issues'?

What a huge disappointment. It's Kamikaze management and they seem to be very good at it. I remember the statements about CA Australia working on this game and how things would be different......I guess they are. Very, very different, or you could read that to mean useless. What will that do to improve the MP game eh? What an anti climax

Well its better than no SSE2 support, isn't it?

I expect this will be fixed in a patch. CA definitely has the technical ability to fix it. In the meantime, Intel players will be having their multiplayer games ruined by Athlon XP players and vica versa. I can see it now:

Player X joins a game.
Host: "Do you have AthlonXP cpu?"
Player X: "Yes."
Host: Kick Player X
Host: Ban Player X

Eventually players will get things sorted after going through "Desync Hell".
Do you think this is any better than no support? Puzz3D has made a good point here, I assure you this is what you will see in the MP lobby

True,
though I believe his comment is meant to point to the now thinned ranks of potential MP opponents - those notably missing being the plebes...

I'll probably never be a big MP player unless CA ever changes their policy on campaign-MP games... so its hard for me to be hard-hit by the lack of MP support for the venerable Athlon XP.

With so much changed in technology in almost every facet of the PC, most folks will quickly find their rigs are outmoded without M2TW pretty soon anyway. Yeah, its as if car dealers figured out how to build cars that don't need tires, or wheels at all. You'll park that old PC in the garage pretty quick.

Or any other new game...
It's your decision of course, but upgrading is something that is part of the computer business for years already and Athlon XPs are getting old.

can somebody tell me what SSE2 is exactly?

Well this is odd to say the least. Why release the demo at all without it being able to work on Atlon XP since people who have XP will not be able to run it? Why not wait a bit then clean it up until the demo could run without SSE2, hence making it available for all your potential buyers? You'd do more damage via pissing of people who only have an XP.

Tech question while I'm here, does the Athlon XP have SSE? Maybe it's obvious to everyone else but I'm not sure.

I would hope that we get the option of running with SSE2 or not.(cfg file) Maybe the game runs a scan of your computer and then sets the parameters, like most games do for graphic settings these days. I prefer a game that pushes my hardware, not the other way around. People need to inform themselves of hardware, and upgrade appropriately. Honestly, if you can save up a $150
you can get a new motherboard and CPU and run this game with SSE2.

My question for CA is how is DirectX 10 going to affect this game? Also what about Vista, is it going to be compatible with Vista.

How many people bought $400/$500 consoles to play Maddens football, Halo, Halo2. How many people upgraded their video cards and CPU's to play Doom3 or Half Life2 when those games came out. This is part of the cycle, software pushed hardware, and vice versa. Quit whining and save your money like the rest of us and upgrade.

I think there is an SSE2 emulator

Are you guys mad, blind or simply stupid?

The demo is written in OLD CODE which hasn't yet been optimised. The beta release doesn't require SSE2 and has the code more fully optimised for different platforms and the demo which is currently circulating was originall leaked and is from a pre-beta code.

The final game will be compatible with older systems, including Athlon XP and will be better suited to a wider range of platforms.

All the muppets who are getting on there goddam high horses about "not buying this game cause it won't run on my 15yr old peasant PC" should get a grip, stop whinging and wait for the 10th November and play the bloody game.

:furious3: Bunch 'o' muppets. It's quite remarkable how much bitching and moaning theres been from some members (and yes, you really are large members) about "I don't like this" and "I don't like that" or "that's not realistic" or "my laptop with built in graphics won't play it - curse you CA". it's sad. Get a decent sodding computer or bog off and play S:TW on your Pentium 2 and stop whining about a modern game, written for the modern PC which hasn't even been released yet.
