Finally got my new rig set up and was able to play the demo. Looks and plays bloody marvelous. :2thumbsup:
So how do you feel about the Banners? Frankly, I'm torn. One the one hand they add color and flavor to the game. On the other they look kind of silly with those huge poles spouting up from some guys back.
I liked the RTW representation better - there certain units had a small banner even after you got rid of the huge ones.
Barkhorn.
Love them.
Looks so very pretty :gorgeous:
Also like how they have different look about them.

I love em but the poles could be a little shorter, at least for the valour flags, and better connected to the soldiers they where applied too..
Actually I think it would look better if they went the whole hog and gerneated them as objects that some of the men carried and integrated it like that in some fashion...

Love um, colourful and really helps with troop identification.
But they do get in your way a bit and do need a bit of getting useful. Also i would like them better if were a realistic size and troops actually carried them as said by a few others.

Love them! They complete the feudal reality in the game :book:

Hear! hear!
Love them, they add a really nice grahpical touch to the game, and provide the heraldry i associate with the medieval period.
Really like them, especially the new upgrade flags. The RTW ones seems pointless (just mini normal flags) but the idea of making them contain the different heraldry was great.
Although when I was zoomed out yestday whilst playing agincourt I tried to select some valour flags, confusing it for a unit lol. But its just about getting used to them. Also, they are a msut for troops identification now, which is a godo thing, no more bright pink factions (Byzantine's units, judging by that axemen on .com site, have extremely minimal pink, which is great!)

They should have attached banners to the pikes.

Love 'm! And they just seem into place... though it is a bit weird that the poles stick into the characters like that... :dizzy2:

Normally they look great, but the bouncing when the unit is selected looks really silly.
I totally agree with points already said above but in general I like the realism about the colours ...
Like the idea of banner, they are realistic and cool, don't like the way the have been implmented so far. But better having them even if they aren't perfect than not having them at all.
Anyone noticed that the small ones blow a differnet way to the big ones?

they are confusing.
i usually look for the biggest banner for easy notice of the general but now other units have big banner.

Ok....
I absolutely love them at long and medium distances.
But I really wish they would dissapear when you zoomed really close to a unit, it looks weird when you zoom in on a unit and they have a huge pole impaling them.
Agreed with the mango, banners ought to thin out when the camera is within 15-20 metres of a unit. As an example of the banner forest:

The flags look absolutely great but they seem a bit thick up close. I don't think I'd have them disappear altogether as they do add quite a bit to the atmosphere, but with nine per unit the banners become a focal point of the visuals, where the individual soldiers ought to be.

I agree when units are in a line and seperated or you are zoomed out they seem fine when zooming in though, or having a couple units together it get's confusing.
Espically if you use like 3 units to attack one unit, the banners seem to be a bit to bunched together.

I really Love the banners and flags. They really help with identification, however I agree with many here that they look a bit silly just 'sticking' out of the unit.

Right. But if you have someone holding them, that person can be killed, then the banner falls on the ground and all that entails.

I have not played the demo enough to check this yet, but what happens when a unit is down to a couple soldiers. DO they still have the huge banners, or do they change the size to help represent relative strenth or some such change like this. Might be a bit silly for a single remaining high valour knight to have his unit flag and all the other flags representing valour...
Just wondering if someone has tried this out...
Also pretty sure I read somewhere that you can trun off the banners. However, I like them as they help to add a bit of depth when viewing units at a distance.

I concur as well. I would be fine with the large banners remaining visible when zoomed in on a unit, but I think we could safely eliminate the valour banners when you're that close to a group of men.
From farther away of course, they look quite nice.
Would be nice if the banners shrank to a realistic size when you zoomed in on a unit.
Right. But if you have someone holding them, that person can be killed, then the banner falls on the ground and all that entails.
That can be realistic. Well, its battle. :sweatdrop:
Ok, guess I'm in the minority. I didn't like them. Thought I would but when I saw them in the demo, with thier large size sticking up as high as they do and 'bouncing' up and down started to drive me nuts. I'd have prefered something a lot smaller and more subdued for banners. Actually ended up prefering the little green circles to the banners and thats saying a lot.

LOL reminds me of bright pink eastern infantry. Looked like they were wearing pyjamas. The polar opposite of intimidating.. which makes sense when you fight them :surrender: :nurse:

Although they inevitably "hover" somewhat (as in R:TW), the new banners look fantastic in my opinion, and accurately reflect (for the majority of factions) the extent to which standards were a feature of medieval armies.

I love them , but they are annoying when you get close distance to troops to see the big poles between the soldiers , they should fade when getting close look ...

The banners itself are nice, but it breaks the atmosphere. If the banners were shorter and you saw soldiers actually carrying those flags, I would love them. But now, I don't like the huge wooden poles sticking out from a soldiers neck. I think I'll be fiddling around in the preferences once M2TW is out.
