I was doing a rare thing tonight, watching the CTV national news (talking head archor persons put me in a coma), I did this because of a story about the MP (Hon. Garth Turner) getting the boot from the Conservative party. For keeping a detailed blog of his parlimentary activities. His fellow Troy MP's couldn't trust that anything they said wouldn't be on the internet in 2 days time. This is the polar opposite to Prime Minister Von Weiner-Harper's culture of silence and secrets that has permiated the commons since his taking office. Turner also has the revolutionary idea that an MP first duty is to the riding he sits for, not the party, or the goverment. :laugh4: Also he's a back bencher.

CTV story about it. (http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20061018/turner_suspended_061018/20061018?hub=TopStories)

Garth Tuners site (http://www.garth.ca/)

Includes the affomentioned blog and an editorial segment, hosted by himself, called MPtv. This whole thing makes sense given Turners self-rightousness, blow hard tendencies, and his pre politics carreer in journalsim.

I really don't know what to think of this. Beyond that this Turner is a conservative dork who I don't agree with on 80% of issues. But should the party be able to dump a back bencher who accounts for his acitons on the hill?

"People who enjoy eating sausage and obeying the law should not watch either being made" - Otto von Bismarck

I think it would be very difficult to get anything done in circumstances where everything you said could, and in all likelihood, will be taken out of context. The press is not noted for telling the whole story about much of anything. Very quickly you would have MP's conducting business as if they were giving a press conference, which in effect with this guy there, is what they were doing.

Loyalty to your constituents doesn't entail telling them the frequency of your bathroom visits. Nor does it mean violating the confidences of your fellow MP's. It should mean doing what you think is best for them, and what they want done. Sounds to me like the guy doesn't understand the meaning of moderation.

I'm not entirely surprised, but I think the more publicity this story receives, the greater the likelihood of extending his career as an Independent. As for his being kicked out...well, the whole thing stinks of something nasty.

I heard a news report today that he was being courted by the Green Party, to be their sole MP.
