I am new at RTW mod making have managed to do a battle for RTW with the Battle Editor but have a few problems.
· I have managed to use the Battle Editor despite a lack of documentation. Does anybody know if the documents that were put on the Activision site are available elsewhere?
· My first battle will only start after I play an original RTW Historical Battle first – I think it has something to do with the movie they start with. Also had problems with only one side been playable. Does anybody know how to get rid of these glitch? It did save with no errors been rep;orted in the Battle Editor.
· I originally named my file as Pharsalus and a battle description, which must be in the game somewhere, appeared. I did not write it and had to change the battle name to get my version to appear. Does anybody know what is going on with this feature?
· I have also had problems with placing buildings - the tents on my roman fort disappeared and also a whole town disappeared apart from the moats. Does anybody know what causes this and how to correct it or avoid it?
I suspect the answers to my questions are well known but I would appreciate some help in pointing me in the right direction. Many thanks in advance.

Hey, congrats! I found it a right niggly thing to begin with.
Docs available here (http://files.mizus.com/files/RTW/Faq/Rome_editor_docs.zip)/

You're best off actually looking in the folder for your battle - it's in the data/world/maps/battle/custom/ folder
The playable side is detailed at the top of the descr_battle.txt file. So long as you put both factions in the playable section they'll both be playable in the battle.

Nope, the description of the battle is in the description.txt file in that battle's folder.

Unfortunately I don't. I've always had problems with the houses of ambient settlements disappearing

Many thanks - Epistolary Richard for your help. Niggly is not the word – it is one of the most frustrating game editors I have used! If you make a mistake you have to go back to the beginning!
I edited the file so both sides should now be playable. Not tested it yet.
The link you gave does not appear to go anywhere?
I was not kidding about a battle description appearing when I gave the battle the save name of Pharsalus. I have now successfully given it a battle description with a different save name.
Does anybody else know how to stop the buildings of ambient settlements disappearing?
Still in nheed of lots of :help:

What kind of mistake are you talking about?

Many thanks again - Epistolary Richard:beam:
The link does not work in Explorer at all but in Firefox I get an empty zip file.
Any thoughts on why battle will sometimes start but other times crashes after you look at the troops in the battle? (Could it have something to do with general age and skill mismatchesor is it like this everbody?)
I have learned to save after each stage and you can edit troop types and quality. (Not sure it would work for numbers as the base size is set on map.) However if you place a road in the wrong place or choose the wrong number of troops there is no back button!
Looks like I am going to have to give up on Thapsus if towns are going to disappear or get corrupted every time!
Is there are good site that would host my battles when I finally get them working? My web site is now full.

You can remove pieces of road by having the road tool selected and then right clicking on them.
You can edit a unit by right-clicking on it with the Create/edit unit tool.

There's the Org's uploader.

I have tried to upload HistoricalBattles.zip, not sure you got it, as it is slightly above your max limit. I hope you did!
It should contain battles for Cannae and Pharsalus.
I managed to edit the scripting language and get units from the Gaul army list in with the Carthaginian troops for Cannae.
I still have not seen the documentation for the battle editor and wsould still like to download it!
