View Full Version : Routing the other way around?

Playing as various faction's I've seen routing unit's who have crossed the thin red line too be considered as taking part in the battle by the game. In other words I could sent my cav to chase them, which invariably lead the routers to turn around and come back! (They'd be crossing the line thrice, as when on the battlefield again they would turn a second time and this time flee for good.) Meanwhile my cav could have been miles away, and this way I could - using the DELETE key - transport myself from the battlefield to the world outside...

I've also noticed that sometimes AI reinforcements who had arrived on the battlefield were considered outside it by the game.

After those battles were over no CTD's occured.

Since I never experienced anything like, nor read about this before, I was wondering wether this could be a typical EB thing?

What I have noticed is that units aren't considered to have left the battle until they are some distance away from the red line. So if the routing units were still close to the red line, they hadn't actually left the battle yet, allowing them to recross the line.

Nope, they were more than an onager's range away from it.

It is because there is still one man who has not crossed the line I believe.

The units will be counted as routing after they leave the entire map.

That'd be one man running miles away from the others, but still it makes sense... so maybe I just overlooked that single person.

And what about that? A unit completely on the battlefield, but still not taking part?

I have had that happen to my own reinforcements before. One unit was greyed, like they hadn't entered yet, but they were slowly walking halfway across the middle of the map and I couldn't give them any commands.

EDIT: I also want to add that this happened in vanilla or a different mod (don't remember) and it seems to be a RTW problem not an EB problem.

When I get these things its usually because one soldier is stuck behind a tree.

In the case of a routing unit, the routing unit has crossed the red line, except for one soldier somewhere on the battlefield, bouncing of a tree. Killing that soldier often resolves the issue.

In the case of reinforcements not having entered the battlefield, there is usually one soldier outside the red line stuck behind a tree, causing part of the unit not having entered the battle field. Nothing u can do about it really.

I actually had one reinforcement unit moving along the enemy wall, in range of all the towers. After the battle the unit was decimated, even though it hadn't entered battle
