Hi!

New here and new to Total War. My computer is ye olde so I picked up Shogun and it has been great. Anyway...

What do you guys do when all clans are defeated but half of the map remains, and is filled with brainless rebels? Do you consider yourself winner and stop playing? Because I find it boring...

In my current campaign I've been playing as Satsuma. I'm a peaceful man but Mori and Imagawa attacked me so I crushed them. So now I control almost the western half of the map. At the same time the Hojo had done the same in the east. Ok, so two of us left. Hojo massed their armies at my borders and I thought I was pretty ******* because he outnumbered me at least 10 to 1. So I had my honor 6 ninja assasinate his son and then his Daimyo, turning his massive armies into rebels. See my current predicament here: http://www.megat.co.uk/%7Elionhead/Wedge/temp/shogun.jpg

I was relieved at first, thinking they would be easier to deal with. And indeed, they are. Because they don't do anything. At all! They just sit there. Booring. So what would you do? I could attack, but he'd have almost endless reinforcements. He has no heavy cavalry and I have loads. And I've killed all his generals. I could win, though I'm not sure it would be worth it. It would take ages and I'd be bored out of my skull dealing with the rest of the rebels.

So I ask you, what do you do with the leftover rebels when you've won?

Diruo,

1) I never played MI so I'm not sure if reinforcements were introduced in the expansion. IIRC you only need to beat the first stack the AI throws at you.

2) The AI seem to be defending a river province.

3) You can surround them and attack. With no province to retreat to they will disappear.

4) Is this Warlord Edition btw?

If you don't want to have to conquer the entire map, isn't it possible to choose to play to the last surviving clan- though this wouldn't help your current game?

If you want more of a challenge from the enemy clans, my modified campaigns have different AI invasion and build strategies. They also alter the unit stats so that peasant units have greater numbers (you could disable this if you prefer the original, but it adds to the challenge). There are two new campaigns- the original campaigns remain playable, but the start dates of the new ones were chosen so that the better AI daimyos appear early.

Welcome to the .org!! ~

If you're talking of WE or MI: Bribe them! Make a lot of emissaries, and bribe their armies. You should have a lot of leftover money by then anyway. ~:)

But you're right, it's a bit boring to deal with rebels only :embarassed: Therefor, I you end up in a scenario like you described (2 powerful clans), let their daimyo alive, and fight them! That's a nice challenge. ~:)

Btw, in WE or MI you can adjust the 'victory' settings before the game. You can change it into conquering 40 of the 60 regions. That would be better, right? ~:)

Hi Amagi, nice to see you're still here to tell people about the campaigns you made. ~:) They were, and still are, very nice!

Well that's clearly original Shogun.

Usually I would just quit. Your other option is to capture Tamba, Yamashiro, Kii, And Yamato and then invade Kawachi in the winter time so the timer is short. Rout them and keep routing reinforcements (easy in original shogun). Once you win they will all die since they have nowhere to retreat to.

Brilliant comments people. Yeah, that's original Shogun. I'll try doing it Sasaki's way and maybe get WE in the long run. Sounds like it contains proper improvements. What's MI? And how does it differ from warlord edition?

Anyway, thanks alot! I'll try your mod Amagi...

MI is Mongol Invasion, the add-on you would use to bring the original game up to the standard of the Warlord Edition. You'd probably be able to buy either very cheaply.

I'm not sure that my campaigns will work with the basic game, since some of the units and buildings won't exist.
