View Full Version : Winner announced for M2TW press day in London!
There will be a Community Gold code day at SEGA Europe HQ on the 3rd of November.
A small competition will decide who can attend this meeting.
It's short day and for that I apologise. The competition will be simple: explain why you should go.
You can explain with a poem, a short essay, music, a comic, some drawing or anything else.
Entries have to be send Saturday 28th of Oktober 2006 24:00 GMT the latest. You can either submit it to the forumtopic that will be opened for this purpose or e-mail/PM your work to me.
Please understand that you have to travel on your own expense and have to be able to actually go there.
People who can not go to the meeting, but like to participate the contest, are more than welcome to participate. But please, tell whether you play for going to the meeting or not.
We'll announce who win at Monday 30th of Oktober 2006 21:00 GMT. Please be around to confirm.
London, England, Great Britain, United Kingdom ;)
Kew Bridge was a hint by the way.
As .org got the same email i did as the TWc CA liasion, you just need to be able to get to Kew Bridge station on that date.
well thats okay, i live really near to kew bridge - when i saw thre announcment thing i was like wtf! how do they know where i live :P

Just to expand on this a bit more. You'll get a chance to play the full game, meet a .org staff member, meet 4 other members of the community that I know of (from other sites), meet the CA (marketing people I guess). All in all, a good day out
Ill be TWC staffs representative there so you'll get to meet me, though im sure that whoever wins will be too busy playing the game to notice.
Just like i will:yes:

WOW!!! Awesome. ~D
Now, even if I don't win the competition, can I participate? I mean, I wanna meet you guys and I wanna play M2TW. I'll travel to London, don't worry. ~:)
is there an age limit (or more to teh pint, minimum)? :2thumbsup:
No age limit as far as I know. A 9 year old girl who can get a lift from her parents could go too. I don't know whether the parents have to wait outside (I suppose so).
I put an age limit on the competiton at TWc as Medi II is rated 16+.
Well if you have to sign a contract that you won't leak anything (what was the word for that again) you'll probably have to be 18 - or not?
Myrddraal
10-23-2006, 19:26
I don't think you'll have to sign any such contract. It's a press day, it's meant to show things off to the public. They want you to come back here and talk about it lots
Yeah they'd probably have told you of an age restriction.
Hmph, anyways: No Englishmen out there who'd like to participate? I mean, if I lived near London I'd be sure to try :P

Probably because the net is so saturated with info.

-STW 15+, STW MI/WE 15+, MTW 11+ (execution of prisoners) MTW VI 12+, RTW 12+ (allows civilian atrocity), RTW BI 12+, RTW Alex 12+, M2TW ESRB Rating: RP=Rating Pending (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8122603&type=product&id=1158319644177&ref=07&loc=03&srccode=cii_0&cpncode=11-16147491-2)) ~
-9 year old girls play these games, as well as 60+ granddads. Them both going would be a nice statement.
Rating pending? Damn Amazon miselading me with its 16+ rating. But i would think it wil be around that given the fact there is blood in it.

10-24-2006, 17:52
Hasn't this event already happened? There was some guy on the www.totalwar.com forums talking about going to some event in London. Didn't look as though it was worth the trip- from what I could tell they just showed a bunch of videos and repeated what has been said in every preview so far.
Well it's scheduled for November 3rd and you supposedly get to play at least a bit of the gold master, so if you live in England that might well be worth it :)
Plus, it can be turned into a nice week-end in London with your girl :eyebrows:
I'll also give you a good reason that'll make sure you win, it is: "I'm the only one who participates"
Myrddraal
10-24-2006, 18:11
Well this thing is on the 3rd of November, so no, it hasn't happened yet. You'll get to play the game, and ask some questions where they're more likely to be answered. There was a similar event a while back and a list of questions were submited by people online to the lucky guy who was going. This is an opportunity to be there in the flesh and do the asking yourself (plus play the game, not the demo)
i live in Central London and thus can get there easily, I am 18 and I would love to see it. On the other hand I am new here so if no one else want's to go consider me. The one problem is I tend bar atm (am on my gap year) and my shift starts at 7.30 and I need to get home for 7, but as its about 5 seconds on the tube I should manage.
On the other hand I am new here so if no one else want's to go consider me.
That doesn't matter, all are invited to try.

:looks around wasteland: A chance to talk to some developers and play the full game for free before it hits shops, and there's so little interest? Come on! Yes, there's a lot of information about now, but this is a chance to see for yourself, a chance to ask questions face to face. I know I trust outside information far less than the proof of my own eyes. I know it's easier to get questions answered in person.
Having been invited seperately, I shall be at the afternoon session. The demo and information available about M2TW has made me cautiously interested; they hasn't convinced me to buy the game, and it has left me with a lot of questions and things I want to see in action.
How many spots are there?

Ack, I got lessons on that day! Shucks! I was already scrounging up some money and writing a small piece for the competition.
Wait, since it is the 8th, does this mean it is something like a "launch party"? M2TW is supposed to be out the 10th in the UK.

'There will be a Community Gold code day at SEGA Europe HQ on the 3rd of November.'
Gold code means that the masterCD's for production are ready. In other words: it's the final code by CA that will be used to make the copies that will be shipped to the customer. Any other (possible) tweaks, will have to be released by patches.
Please, feel free to submit your work and just add that you can not go to the party Community Gold code day. Anyone from this globe can join the competition, even those that can't go (but please tell whether you seriously can go or not).

Why am I a Total War fan.
Why am I a hardcore Total War fan? Passion for history? Loving to see people die? Desperately wanting to be a dictator/tyrant to rule the entire universe? Maybe. Or maybe not. Or maybe there's some other hidden thing in this small universe we live in and we call it "home".
We love games. But why Total War? Because we love games which stimulate our thinking. Doesn't matter if our IQ is 10 or 200, our brain has a perverse excitation regarding to this matter. We still have our animalical origins. We still like battles. We've created the 2 World Wars, in which millions of people died. But still, we want more and more. And we want to discover. And that’s exactly what our beloved series of games does to us…
We share a common passion with our peers. One, which unites us all. And it doesn't matter if we are enemies or best friends, we still duel each other online, grasping every piece of land to achieve total domination against our friends and foes alike. Prepare for discovery and battle. But prepare for much more, which will take you a step further into this avenging journey. Prepare for TOTAL WAR!!!
This is my short essay. Will pray all night hoping it will win. ~:)

One could submit 200 pages of essay and argue that it's short. Anything else does introduce the possibility to submit 500 pages as well (though, by some standards, that's also short of course).

Evening all,
Long time lurker first time poster. This competition has driven me from the shadows. Wow the opportunity to talk to some of the people behind the Total War series, I couldn't resist. Now rather than bore you all with my gushing, I'd like to tell you all why I should be the one to go to the gold code day. - I live in London and would really like to go.
Are you sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin.
Back in 2004 I was another bored gamer, nothing particularly held my attention for more than 3 months; and I never expected anything to. Then, whilst scouring the shelves of my local game store, trying to remove the boredom of work from my brain and eek out my lunch hour just that little bit further. I came across Medieval: Total War and Viking invasion twin pack (reduced). I bought it using women's logic of look how much I saved. (I'm a bloke but it was the only excuse I had at that time).
I expected that I would play this for a few months and then get bored and it would sit there. I didn't know that I had just bought Pandora ’s Box. I didn't know that this would be a pivotal decision of my life. I didn't know...
Needless to say I loved the game; I was rubbish at it, but I loved it. I played for months on end, getting beaten time and time again, I don't think I've ever hated an AI so much as I hated the French in MTW.
But then I found out that this wasn't just a stab in the dark game that happened to get it just right, it was part of a series; a series that was about the updated. I bought Shogun Total War, and loved that, but I'm a fickle creature and the graphics of Shogun weren't as good a Medieval so I went back to Medieval, while I awaited the launch of the fabled ROME: TOTAL WAR.
Now I know that a lot of you prefer Medieval: Total War because you love that era in History, but as I've said before I'm fickle, the graphics in Rome: Total War were better (IMHO). And besides, I couldn't say I loved any era in history, I learnt history from these games, hell, I learnt geography from these games: my Girlfriend wanted to go to Tunisia, so I asked her whether that was near Carthage!
Now back to the story, come launch day Rome: Total war, I booked 2 weeks off work and played the game solidly... and lost soundly. But I was having fun, and I have been ever since. Yes 2 years on and I'm still playing (not the same Campaign, because I think I'm a bit better now).
Now in December last year I heard that they might be making another Total War game! And I'm afraid to say that my reaction to this news was not initially good, for two reasons... firstly I still hadn't managed to win a campaign in RTW, and so my life was being consumed by doing that, and I could ill afford to spend more time playing another one. :wall: Secondly, my computer wouldn't take it, :furious3: it had struggled with RTW so stood no chance with the new game.
But I had a plan... :idea2: Phase one, was to take another 2 weeks off over Christmas and finally complete a campaign in R:TW. Phase two, was harder, I needed a new computer, but I was already in debt up to my eyeballs. So I made a new years resolution to pay off my debt and buy a new computer.
Now by some clever accounting (transfer my credit card to an interest free one, thus it is paid off!) I was able to buy a new computer in May, and not just any computer. No I bought the dogs #%@'#;. I bought an Athlon 4800 dual core; 2048 Ram; Nvidia 7900 512m graphics dogs #%@'#; for £1,700.
This made R:TW look even better which sort of defeated phase 1, but I was still pleased.
Now to the point. I think I should go to the gold code day, because so far the Total War series has cost me:
almost all my spare time for the last 2 years
4 weeks paid holiday, with another week booked for the 10/11
£1700 on a new computer, + whatever the games cost me
and almost a Girlfriend (the game doesn't have an in built reminder to say - you have spent too much time on me; she'll get jealous).
So I need your help :help:, I need to be able to confront the people who are responsible for this. Make them understand that their actions have consequences. They're not just making a game; they're changing people's lives.
I need to thank them.
Why should I go to the Medieval 2 Total War community Day?
Well that’s a long story but it can be summarized (the 400 page book can be obtained off me via pm) into this.
One, I live 5 minutes away, am in perfect health and am newly unemployed so there is no way I will miss it.
Second, I live nearby and used to work in a pub so I will be able to advise those people over 18 where they can go to celebrate a wonderful day.
Thirdly, My devotion to the Total War series; the fact that I own them all and have played them all for a good couple of months (solid gaming hours) is probably not that unusual. The fact that I have newly (2 days ago) bought a computer to play it on also isn’t that unusual (well not a whole computer just new GFX, CPU, Mobo, HDD and RAM.) also isn’t that unusual the fact that I will be able to enjoy it in all glory and more importantly am willing to splash a grand to ensure that does suggest something, I hope.
Fourthly, while this doesn’t directly relate to my devotion to the Total War series, I am going up to Cambridge next autumn to study History. So, it is clear that being able to fight medieval battles before everyone else will be very useful in my future studies. Also a strong knowledge of history (if focused towards the end of the period) will allow me to moan not only about graphics and game play but also historical inaccuracies, thus making my post-visit report more informative.
Finally I have recently lost my job (bar tending at the Green Man, for unprofessional behavior( ) with one of my colleague's) thus I am in desperate need of cheering up, while she has helped a nice visit to CA wouldn't hurt.
As a warning I will cheat in the true fashion of Blackadder, anyone who stands against me will suffer unfortunate accidents and I will of course be able to stand in for them.

I don't appear to be able to edit, so this was my entry:
Hey, I've been looking around here for a while but this contest made me decide to register. Unfortunately my activation email's not yet arrived, so I can't post this.
The reason I want to win this is simple; I really really enjoy the game. That's all it comes down to, and I can't convince you just like this that it's more than anyone else, I guess. I mean, I've enjoyed the series for years: started with Shogun, progressed to MTW, started to really love it. RTW was a killer for me, and it ranks among my favourite games of all time (it displaced MTW from the top few, since it was just such a great improvement). I just know CA aren't going to drop the ball on this one, and I'm looking forward immensely. I'm itching for it. I can't wait - except I have to.
But hey, all that's easier said than proven (and every civilised society believes in needing a body of evidence before you can convict). So this is the real meat of my submission:
https://img79.imageshack.us/img79/7477/mtwiieh0.jpg
I'm playing to win - but even if I don't, I hope someone at least cracks a smile. :D

If ca have a problem, they should have stated some rules for org to include. Just randomly saying "host a contest", is their problem.

Also surley anyway some of the content would be open? Its not like its all playign the game eeeesh.

Maybe they could wip up a quick mod changing knights to fluffy bunnys, without teeth of course, tibs small 15 year old eyes wouldn't fit that :P
(Please note not having any sort of dig at the org, I blame this soley on CA for not giving org any rules, then implementing them once the contest is over.)
I think this is more down to a lack of communication. I limited the TWC contest to 16 and over members because that is the age rating it was given by Amazon.co.uk, and i had seen the comment at RTWH by The Shogun.

ugg what a rubbish name i had lol :| anyway i dont see why you are trying to enforce a silly rule on this. The only reason your doing it is proly cause u want tib not to get it so you might get another chance! that is completly stupid and selfish.
Tib has won fair and square, the rules of a competition MUST be stated before it begins or at worst after it has begun. If you are bringing in an age rule after the competition is won that is the organisers fault and they should sort it out with the prize people :p
As tib has said hes only a few months out and im 100% sure that he could simply get parental permission to go if its realy a problem. Stop being harsh and let him go!!!!!!!! i comand thee! :whip:

I'm not sure about the law, but the 16 rating is just an age recommendation by a board, right? Most stores won't let you buy it if you're younger - but that's their policy?
But if it is the law, then I don't see how you can go - they can't give you access illegally?!
Anyway, good luck.

There will be two of us going. However I'm invited separately and as a frog, not as an org rep.

Can you go even if you haven't won?
Or it's only the press and the winners?

Sorry edyz, you can't go unless you're invited.
Doesnt look like Tib is going either. Apparently "the Shogun" whoever he is has objected cos Tib is a few months shy of 16. Utter rubbish if you ask me. If he is not allowed to go he should still be given the free copy of the game.
Fully agree with Wish.
And early too, as he would have got it if he'd have gone to the day thing :P
(again, I stress I'm not having any sort of dig at the org, CAs fault :P)
From what i understand of it no one under 16 can go to the event as the game is 16 rated, and CA do not want problems with potential legal issues.

That was not stated on the announcement of this competition on these boards.

You are right - we did not know of the age restriction until after the winner was selected. The staff here all feel frustrated about the situation and we are sorry for Tib.

FYI, tibilicus is selecting a replacement to go to the event on his behalf. Poor compensation I know
This is sad & oh so tragic....a replacement....Tibilicius deserves the honour!!!!

Indeed it is. I would like to thank the .org for being help ful in the matter. They were top. I can not say the same for The_shogun however who if I was to be honest couldn't organize a kids party with the complete lack of communcation between him and the .org. Once again not the .orgs fault in anyway. I'm not even sure yet if I will receive any kind of prize for my efforts. That once again is down to shogun. Maby before he organzies days out for his quote: "community" he should actually be botherd to spend the time to tell them all the details. But ocne again thank you to the .org. They did very well on the matter. As for shogun..
Good job to Org staff for doing all they could :2thumbsup:
How should he receive the free copy. The game is rated 16, so he's probably not allowed to get it at all (well, officially), tragic how that may be :skull:

It's the fact of the matter I would not be receiving any prize from CA for a competition I wun. We are past the previous argument in which im not sure the age rating is even a law more a guidance for parents when buying the game. Keep pace.

They can send it to his parents.

Well, i've been following this topic for quite a while now, and discussing it with Tib over MSN for quite a few days, and i have to say - this is the most ridiculous piece of ludicrous legality i have ever seen.
CA have problems with potential legal issues? Surely if Tib is underage (even if by a few months), couldn't his parents give permission to CA to let him go?
I personally think that CA/Shogun/Whoever set the original competition is in the wrong here for not setting the rules straight - they should let him go, or face breaking the law by not having made clear the Terms & Conditions of the competition and then stopping the winner going because he breaks these T&C's.
The Shogun did post at other sites saying that the event was 16+, the must have forgot to post about it here.
At the end of the day it should have been included in the original email (I assume email) that Shogun sent out to Tosa. Including rules after the competition has been won is ludicrous.
Furthermore, you don't have to be British to go to this, you just have to get there. It'd be very interesting if Tib was German where the limit is 12+, or USA wheres IIRC its "teen" so 13+. Ooo, I bet CA would be able to cock it extrally up! :D
No, Ca have specified in emails since this situation came about that people would need to be 16+ to be able to take part in the event. i believe Myddraal also poste din this thread saying it was 16+ on the 2nd page, but it was not added tot he first post or something.

Obviously, CA didn't tell Tosa there was an age limit.
Yeah, looks like i imagined the post where Myddraal mentioned the age limit.
I put an age limit on the comp at TWc after thinking i better make sure only people who would definitely be able to go submit entries, i checked out the major game sites/retailers to see what age rating M2Tw has, and then used it for the comp. Later i saw The Shoguns post at RTWHeaven saying it was for 16 and over.
I can not say the same for The_shogun however who if I was to be honest couldn't organize a kids party with the complete lack of communcation between him and the .org.
Though he might have a shot at coordinating a kids party, in the main I could not agree more. Richie ended up through default and seniority in the position of community coordinator, but CA really need to get someone consistent and prompt filling that position. Elsewise we'll continue to have situations like this far into the future.
OK, I think this issue has been thoroughly discussed. Apologies again to Tib and let's hope this kind of episode is avoided in the future.
