Yes I was buying some fish and it had a warning label on it saying may contain fish, peanuts may (yes *may*) contain nuts and apparently it’s not a good idea to smoke while buying fireworks. I think all this comes under the heading of common sense don’t you.

You'd be surprised what eejits can ignore. In today's litigious societies, manufacturers and retailers just have to try and cover all the bases.
I know a guy who works for a labelling company 0 he loves this stuff (he once got an order for "warning may be hot" stickers for office kettles

It's all due to personal injury litigation. 'Reasonable precautions' has been dumbed down to moronic things like "Warning: Placing one's head inside this plastic bag may result in suffocation" and the like. A friend of mine who's a lawyer once said pretty much each and every warning label you see out there is the direct result of a lawsuit, including the notorious hot coffee from McDonald's.

If I've ever got a company that makes products, I'll put warnings on them like "Caution-If you are an idiot, you may misuse this product in a fatal manner"

When I lived in America I saw a beer can that said "Warning: Drinking the contents of this can may impair your ability to drive" ~:)
I wouldn't mind so much, but they sell beer at petrol stations in the US.....

Yes, I've always found that amusing about living here. Don't Drink and Drive, but we'll sell you beer at the Gas Station, and most bars outside of Cities don't have Cab Access and are generally much to far to walk to and from.

Well, my recent experience in e-commerce and the "retail environment" has shown me that customers are mostly illiterate morons totally incapable of absorbing any information they have been spoon-fed.
I get a constant stream of customer enquiries of the totally pointless variety.... things like "What colour is the blue one?" and "How much does free delivery cost?"
I tell you, they HAVE TO HAVE THESE LABELS! It is common sense, yes, but show me a customer who won't blame the retailer when his own lack of common sense causes him to choke/drown/die or whatever whilst misusing your product.... It's called "covering your ass" -- you NEED these labels!

Just thought I would butt in too. Good post, just one little thing:
Choked, drowned or indeed dead customers won't be suing anybody.
I would almost believe you if you said that you did this on purpose. :beam:

Okay, Quid, I confess -- the choked/drowned/dead ones are those who complained without considering the consequences of giving me their name and address in the first place :skull: :skull: :skull:
Ah, that would explain it! :2thumbsup:
