how many of you guys play BF2 online?? I play BF2 online like every single day, some days I get #1-5 on the Game Leader Borad,50-100 points,sometimes I do bad lol..

I now got back into it, and play it frequently. I dont have any booster packs or expansions. I just recieved my Corporal rank, unlocked both the L85A1 and the G3 (although I now regret choosing the L85A1). Getting the Anti-Tank Combat Badge and the Sniper Combat Badge are giving me trouble.

these days im playing BF2142 - i prefer it to Bf2 as its much more skewed towards Infratry rather than Tanks - plus everything is earned you cant just jump into the medic class and revive people you have to earn the right to bring people back (im a die hard medic i hardly play any other roles)

However I find it is much easier to kill a bunch of people in a tank. I got all four bronze class badges by tanking in them... And most of my silver engi and support are also tank.

However, I love the Pilum AT.
Just last night my clan and I occupied the flag outside the EU uncappable on Sidi Power Plant. That effectively cut the EU side off from using vehicles. I used mines and the Pilum to great effect while the other guys used various weapons, but mainly AT weapons. It was great... And the EU guys didn't know what to do. Everything they did ended up in total failure. Generally they tried assaulting us head on which game me and another Pilum user a lot of perfect side and rear shots on tanks and APCs. Add to that my EMP mines, it was a turkeyshoot.
And I had covered the backroad with movement mines, so that was safe as well.

Once I joined a shaqri Pennsula Game, and it was a massarce. after the roundI joined into was over, I was the Commander for the USMC team in the second game, since it was 15 round, Insomina 365 Server,stop by some day, anyhow, It was a massarce. the MEC crew got shut down, they took some of our flags, but liek for the whole game, we kept them at the uncap points. they snuck in and took 2-3 of our flags, but they didn't last long..

I ended up getting #1 on the game leaderborad with like 70 or 80 some points, I'll post the pic later..

I love the Anti-Tank Class, I can kill people easily with that. Specail Ops ain't a bad class, if you using them for good aiming, since Anti-Tank guns don't, or blowing up UAV/scans..

I play on the Insomina365 Servers. 15 round PER MAP. That what I love. I hate when I join a game, and it only 2 rounds, and most of the time I joined half way though the second round. I usally play Mashtuur City and Sharqi Penninsula on Insomina365 if Possilbe, and Dragon Valley on Antieam 24/7 Server before I got banned on it..

Yea m8. I got like 2-3 Knife Kills in the 1-2 months I be playing BF2, and that is it. even in a small inf only, Pistol&Knife game, most people will use Pistols of course, which makes it hell for the knives..

If you want to get your sniper badge, go to wake. If you don't have the L96 make sure you play as the Marines. Find yourself some good cover and start picking off idiots at 400+ meters. Whatever you do don't try and use an M-95 past 350 meters its a waste of ammo the things to innaccurate to even hit the person. Also the svd and chinese rifle suck, stick with the bolts, more power one shot brings them down to 4% health. Remember there is ballistic trajectories in this game so the further out you go the more you need to compensate for the drop.

And always, always remember to guard your hide, you have thos claymore's for a reason, protect your flank and year. They are directional, so make sure it's facing the right direction. Always try to hide them in some foliage.

The knife badge is an easy one. Don't bother with knife and pistol servers. Get yourself onto karkand and get near a spawn point. After you get your basic the rest will come eventually. Just remember the knife is very useful, if the enemy hasnt spotted you and your behind their lines use it if you can, shooting alerts others.

Pistol's a bit easier, just takes 5 kills. Get a M-95 rifle throw one round into their chest and finish them off with a pistol, rinse and repeat. Don't bother with the silenced pistol's site the crosshairs are very tight.

I actually like the MEC sniper rifle. Semi-automatic and fairly accurate. If I dont kill them the first shot, I dont have to wait two seconds to chamber a new round like the USMC rifle. I usually get most of my sniper kills with the Druganov.

Thanks Guys.. I like usimg the L9481 Rifle or w/e it called to snipe off the people. I like the Shaqri Peninsula Map, not a good Sniper map IMO, but I like to play on the Mashtuur City Map, and Hide on the Huge Budling across the street from the Mosque.. I usally put down the 1 claymore on the lower part of it, and go to the highest section of the buliding, and put the second claymore then and start sniping then, usally only get 1-2, mabye 3 kills if I'm lucky.. good in a 64 player map, usally people are swarming all over the mosque.

After a long and hard journey, I finally made the rank of Sergeant, and I still havent found a good unlockable I like. I should have chosen the M95 instead of the PKM. The PKM is good, but the slow fire rate leaves something to be desired. If I wasnt such a horrible pilot, I would have my Helicopter and Aviator badge by now. Ground Defense badge is easy enough to earn, just need to find an out of the way machine gun to man for five minutes, but I'm going to have difficulty with the Transport badge

Hint I always use... If you can see the enemy before you raise the scope then you are too close! The only things that should worry a sniper are other snipers (and artillery :laugh4: )...


Head shots rule... The L96, a good position and a steady aim is great... and you can really contribute to the team effort if you surpress the enemy at a flag while your team is attacking. Enemy AT guys are a good target because taking them out keeps your tanks safe and then tend to stand still when they fire which allows for the head shot. Don't waste shoots on guys boucing around... Enemy snipers are a good second choice (as they tend to stay pretty still too) but your most dangerous target as they can hit you back...

If you are shot or shots land nearby it is time to leave that location and don't go back... Relocate to a completely different location immediately! Never, ever, climb a crane or get on top of a hill because as soon as anyone thinks a sniper is around the first place they look is up... Though you cn get away with this tactic if you stick to the first rule and are so far away thet only enemy snipers can see you, but you will attract their fire being up there...

There is bullet drop at the further ranges but it is not much...

As a sniper you are not equiped for close combat, stay away... And don't be afraid to surpress spawn points (as long as the server rules allow for it)... The point of the game is to capture flags and anything you can do to encourage the enemy to spawn somewhere else is a good thing in my opinion...

Personally I love the challenge of sneaking all the way to the enemy airfield and staking out all those jet whores... Boom, head shot!! :laugh4: teach them for not fighting like a man!

The grenade launcher is pure love.Armour and AT are the name of this game, at least for me. I can take out choppers with one grenade on a good day, guiding them in through the side-doors and then watching the fireworks. I like to play both tanks and RPG's though, preferably in a good team. Teamwork is great fun in BF2, even if you don't use a headset. I am hoping for a patch that rewards teamwork more. Nothing beats those outrageous buggy rides behind enemy lines with a good Spec Ops team intent on blowing up the enemy's uncappables.

My two young kids and I all play the same character (http://bf2s.com/player/76080781 (http://bf2s.com/player/76080781/)) and the K/D ratio is horrible. But "we" made gunnery sergeant all the same. And I think my predilection for AT is clearly showing despite my youngest son's dogged fascination with sniping and hoisting himself on his own claymores.

The G3, personally, is a horrible weapon in the game. Burst fire, and only 20 rounds in the mag, and no under-attached grenade launcher. It makes up for it for being required for the F2000, a vastly superior weapon (one/two shot kills if you aim for the head using the scope).
If you like Support, the PKM is definately a good weapon. I have yet to try the MG36 online, or any of the normal G36 weapons online, so I cant comment on them.

EDIT: Seeing as how you play Special Ops more than any other class, I suggest going for the G36C

The G3 in the game is a good weapon.

It is NOT burst (auto) and it is very powerful.

It comes with throwable frag grenades anyway.

I prefer it to the M16.

Make sure all the wires coming from your modem are correctly plugged in (to the modem, and/or the outlet). I regularly have that problem, and it's simply a matter of firmly pushing all the wires back into their places. Hope it's the same for you.

The second assault unlock is the F2000. You should be able to unlock it once you have the G3 and play Special Forces at least once. You should also get double the unlocks available to you once you play Special Forces

I am absolutely in love with F2000. As accurate as a sniper rifle when using the scope and semi-auto, has a grenade launcher, AND using the kit gives you access to flashbangs (which are vital to capturing heavily defended flags).

The L85A1 is the first medic unlockable weapon. The L96A1 is the second sniper unlockable.

Indeed it does. Once you unlock the F2000 kit, you can use the flashbangs in any map, SF or vanilla

I'm kind of annoyed because during a game I won the medic award, and when I left the game the award was nowhere to be found! It was several days ago so its lost for certain...

EA is poor at updating stats. Usually, if the game ends or you exit just after getting the award and you dont continue playing for a little, it wont update. Happened to me with one award. I eventually had to redo my efforts until I got it.

Speaking of freaky awards, BF2S.com says I have everything I need for the MEC Campaign Ribbon (1s in each vanilla MEC map), but I just dont have it. I already have the Chinese Campaign Ribbon, but this is driving me up a wall.

Make sure all the wires coming from your modem are correctly plugged in (to the modem, and/or the outlet). I regularly have that problem, and it's simply a matter of firmly pushing all the wires back into their places. Hope it's the same for you.

hmmmm... what message comes up when you try to connect? can you work the normal world wide web? next i would suggest the following:

a) open up your connection options, click "repair connection." It probably wont work so
b) call the services for the company that makes your modem and ask them what to do. describe to them what message comes up and they should tell you what the problem is and how to fix it.

Note: If your internet does work but the BF2 server does not, then you probably need to download the latest patch.

This is only true if you just want to practice flying a helicopter or jet all by yourself. To play with bots, you need to be in a co-op game, and co-op games are only on 16 player maps.

I know of a 24 hour Ghost Town server I have on favorites that is usually maxed on players, but Ghost Town isnt all that great. I'd much rather have something like Night Flight, something where I can use my night vision goggles.

That is actually another problem, only certain SF maps get chosen regularly (usually the day maps) so some of the cooler maps remain unknown.

Ghost Town is great for a 16 player melee, but on 64 player maps, it gets bogged down by tanks and AA and stupid people flying helicopters. It gets so bad, I usually camp myself around the oil fields on flag defense so I dont have to deal with accidental friendly fire with all the crowding going on.

Thats exactly why the only let 42 players in most of the time (on a 64 player map).

Anyway, its a good playground for me because I play Medic and Assault. Flashbangs are good on it, and plenty of people to revive.

No, it is very easy to mod it or to get a mod that makes them 64 player.

As for SF, I play it more than BF2Vanilla. (I am kind of a SAS pervert, so that is probably why :D)

No because you aren't using an online EA account therefore you can't win awards, ranks etc. No. Play Multiplayer! BF2 needs to be played online.

Wow. Just wow. Got this for christmas, and it is pretty damn amazing. As soon as i started playing, i didn't move for a minute or so, just stood in awe at a dogfight in the sky above. Then i jumped in a jeep and drove off, into the battle.

I've found this is probably the only game where you can fulfil all those little daydreams you have of commiting amateur heroics in the heat of battle. I have quite a lot of fun playing as a medic on the frontlines, trying to save people. Or accidentally getting caught behind enemy lines with a few people in Mashtuur City.

So fun.

some good tips are, as a beginner:

In your first games, join a squad and let your squad leader give you orders to show you what the gist of the game is.

Play either Special Forces or Assault. They are beginner friendly kits which are not complicated. I recommend you avoid the temptation of being a sniper all the time.

Avoid mods like the plague! The game is good enough without them to mess up online play. Only play Ranked Servers online.

You don't need the microphone with the headset; it's not essential. I have one, but I never need to use it. There are few players who actually use them because of the following:

The messages can easily be ignored.
The messages drown out other sound and is annoying if you are trying to listen to the battle.
Most people ignore them.
Most people won't understand what you are saying (I find that there are a lot of people from other countries who don't speak coherent English). You can avoid this by going for servers you know will generally only have Americans, English or Australians playing.
Trying to speak to your team members in the middle of the game is tedious and distracting.

Whenever the squad leader is talking, I always listen. They usually give you good advice on where to go (defending your squad leader protects your mobile spawn point), and is a LOT easier than typing a sentence in the heat of battle, even in shorthand.

Some other Tips. Feel Free to ask more questions.


If you going to play MP alot (I hope you will,it's good), then here a few tips.

Bunny Hop. it may be "illgeail" in alot of servers, but alot of people,including myself, do it anyhow. Bunny Hoping is when you jump up and down serveal times to avoid getting kill, and you kill the other person instead.quite annoying.

Second, If your Hummve take a Anti-Tank Shot, BAIL OUT!! Don't Risk trying to move any further, unless you see the guy and you actually know you can run him over before he can reload and blow you to hell. Trust me, I been on Both Ends. I had people try to run me over,only to get shot by me and killed or by someone else when they run me over.


If you wanna take out a Tank, hit it once, usally in the front or on the turrentk, then duck or run off to a safe spot,reload, and repaet the process 2-4 times,mabye 5 times max in bad cases, till it blows or untill he comes out, then if he comes out for you, then of course, you need to pull out your gun/pistol/knife, unless you wanna use a Anti-Tank gun, Like I do :) :)


Also, It's ok if you Fly a Chopter to their "main" base where their UAV/scans are. I do it all the time on the Masthuur City and Sharqi Peninsula Maps. I hop in my Apaches or My Most Favortie Choper, The Black Hawks (BHC :) :) ), then I fly to their base,cap or uncap, or close to it, and bail out and do my work.

Well, you can communicate quickly by holding down "Q" and then you'll understand how.

Mods are unofficial, unnecessary and not very popular. If you really want to use them, go ahead. Good luck.

So, I've finally got his game myself plus the expansion pack. Quite a hectic game, this. Being used to AA this is an entirely different thing, admittedly you still shoot people, but everything is on a larger scale.

Anyway, I do have a question for all those Battlefield vets patrolling the arena: how exactly do I unlock weapons ?

Also, how do you all normally proceed once the game starts, do you join squads or zerg rush the enemy from the get go ? What works for you, and which kits do you use to make it a success ?

I usually kill a fair amount of enemies, but always die at least twice for every enemy I kill - there always seems to be just one more bloke behind the one I just shot. How do you guys stay alive and rake in those double digit points ?

You get 1 Unlock Weapon per Promotion. I unlocked the G3 when I got Promoted to Staff Sergeant on Sunday/Monday/Tuesday (don';t remember)..


Depends. If you on Masthuur City map, and you sprwan on the uncaps bases, head towards the BlackHawk/Cobras Helocopters first. THen join a Squard or make a sqaurd to rake up time for your ribbons..

don't waste all your ammo clip/clips on one or two enemies.. And RELOAD OFTEN. Some of my bad mistakes was, instead of killing easy/hard tagets quick or in a minute, I would shoot my last 4 rounds, then pull out my pistol, but die 2 seconds later. If you in a middle of a bad gunfight, and got time to Reload, DO IT, if not, and got someone near you, pull out your pistol and hope for the best and reload in a safe spot ( unless you dead)

Also,Don't teamkill m8. you will lose 6 points if you get punish for a TK, 3 points if you got forgiven and turst me

newbie needs more help.

I am having more fun playing in squads than alone; the only problem is once I leave one for some reason (leader walks up to me and shoots me in head while there are no enemies around for no reason, or just isn't that good) both have happened.

Any way skip ahead 5 min after that and it won't allow me to join another squad or rejoin my old one.(keep in mind the squads I try to join are not locked)

Also how do I unlock the other guns? I've gained three ranks and still can't get one:help: (so technically i should be able to get one right)

While you are roaming the world of spirits this feature is locked to you.

I think playing with you Americans would be a problem as it would be too far for you to join the Euro servers and it would be too far for us to join the US servers. The ping rate would be monstrous which would lead to serious lagy gameplay.

actually i was wrong about my promotions,

1 was real (I got a private first class)

The second didnt count (does quitting the game still give the promotion) or it may have been one of the 3 or 4 time my computer restarted on me for no reason.

the third one was just a badge.

but even so I should still be able to get a gun right? what do i need to do.

That said, my pc has the strange tendency to automatically connect with some server right after I load my account. Why is this ? I'd like to simply chose one myself, and not get automatically connected to some other server - as I always immediately brake the connection.

Yeah, in BF2 you have to bunny hop up to them to win a gunfight!

I find BF2 as lame as vanilla BF1942 to be honest. Too arcadey, with shoddy ballistics.

I still play the Forgotten Hope mod for BF1942, and eagerly await the new version of the mod using the BF2 engine.

The fella who said mods are pointless is wide of the mark, though they do tend to be a bit more niche.
