The game is usually less then 10 dollars now, and I've heard good things about it, so I was thinking about getting it.

So, what expansion packs are worth getting?

Also, what mods are good, besides forgotten hope?

I hear Its only ever good online, and with time going on and yet another BF release (2142) I fear 1942 may be dying. But I don't have the game, so I may be wrong.

You don't need any expansion packs. Mods are way better.

Desert Combat and 1918 are both good mods as well. Both can be obtained through Planet Medal of Honour at Gamespy.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Stupid question, I know, but would it make more sense to get one of he COH games, or Armed Assault, instead of 1942?

There are not that many mod servers running now.

DC is of course one of the biggest, not sure whether BF2 killed it though. I've never tried it.

Pirates is fun for a bit, but good luck finding a server.

I'd stick with FoHo if I were you. If you do so and find yourself on the WOLF server you may just see me there.

I think atleast one of my friends still plays Forgotten Hope... so I'll probably stick with that.

Does BF1942 have a single player campaign? If so, I might pick up a copy myself.

I think the extent of it was playing against bots...

I had the game for afew days when a friend who owned it was staying at my house, so I do know afew things about it.

The SP campaign is more or less just a string of MP levels, but with only bots.

I play BF1942 unmodded, without expansions, Wake Island or Midway Island. A full server can really make things fun

There is a Midway? Never tried it.
How does it look compared to Wake?

If I remember, Midway is only available in multiplayer (I'm not sure, could have been a fan-made module). But it had plenty of ship to ship combat, and submarine warfare.

Submarine??? Damn... There must have been some patch or expasion that added something very new.

No, it's quite old. Back before all the expansions. The only submarines are on the Midway multiplayer map

Now that I think about it, I do seem to remember that you could set the keys for diving and such... Just never tried it.

Midway does feature in single player, at least in the patched versions, but I can't recall seeing a submarine in single player.

The submarine is for multiplayer only
